Yeah, the "specials" have become very formulaic - big drama, big music, big running around, big "no-one else is going to die today..." rinse and repeat.

they need to shake things up, maybe kill Amy off next Christmas

well it was ok, more dynamic than last year's story but still no where near the intensity of The End of Time, possibly the first time they told completly the wrong story, it should have been about the RAF pilot and the tree harvesters, that woukld have been much more interesting, I think it's safe to say I don't want the Moff to write another christmas story, they're not his forte.

We get the Christmas Special tonight, so no spoilers please.

I don't know, it was my absolute favourite Christmas special to date! I especially loved the theme behind it. "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," was obviously thought of when they were creating it. :)

Now, I didn't care much for "End of Time." I just really didn't care much for Davies' writing. I thought Tennant is what made his episodes turn out so well. Personally I feel that Moffat's writing allows for a broader audience to enjoy the series. Whenever I introduce a friend to the series, I always show them one of Moffat's episodes (Blink, Girl in the Fireplace, and the past two seasons).

Yup. Moffat's episodes are great. I also was not a huge fan of The End of Time, and now I'm a bit scared to see what will happen to 11 when he regenerates.

I think we may have already been primed for it, with all the talk of the Fields of Tranzenor, the Fall of the Eleventh, the Fall of the Silence and the oldest Question 'hidden in plain sight' being asked...

I have heard that Matt Smith has a five year contract and is set up to be the Doctor for the 50th anniversary.  Shame Amy and Rory are going next series but their story is running out of steam.   It is time they dropped the christmas element from the special, it is wearing a bit thin.  Much better to have an unrelated adventure around christmas time as opposed to the forced 'something christmassy must happen e.g robot santa's, living christmas baubles, spider's web christmas star space ships etc..  The only link to CS lewis was the snowy forest and I didn't get the Tardis as wardrobe motif only being shoehorned in, it isn't as if the Tardis was used to get to the forest.

Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new Who girl, it'll be interesting to see how the new TARDIS dynamic will work and what her character's name will be

I guess we will just have to be patient.  They have been running repeats of all the recent series on ABC2 daily for months now.

apparently there's 5 episodes this side of christmas, the christmas ep which introduces the new companion and then another 8 episodes next year, I'm not sure if that includes the 50th anniversary or next years christmas story, or if they'll be made seperately.

There's 5 episodes this side of Christmas, with either episode 5 or 6 being the Christmas special in which we meet Jenna. Then we get the other 8. That's it for this year. But then a few months down the line they'll start season 8, which is the fiftieth anniversary. Did any of that make sense? I never know.

I have to say, Matt Smith still hasn't done much for me. David Tenant was awesome. Outside of a few Moffat episodes just really have not been into it much lately.

A vital question: am I the only person that's bothered by this disturbing development??!? :)

less than a week to go now, time to prepare for the television event of the year!

WOW. Amazing return of Doctor Who for Series 7. My new favorite Matt Smith episode, and what maybe an awesome twist for the future. Eased the wounds of not having David Tennant, and one moment he even channeled him. It was great.

I thought that the last episode was fantastic. I'm really hoping that it's a sign of greatness to come.  ;D

So the big question for me is: How come the thing that finally pushed me over the edge into fancying Amy Pond (a profound departure from years of finding her relentlessly irksome) is... cerulean nail varnish?

I'm not sure I can cope with this...
