Wearing a wig

I have been crossdressing less than two years, so this might seem like a silly question. I keep my hair in a crewcut or wiffle. Is this what I want under my wig? It seems logical, the wig sits flat and isn't "lumpy." Am I doing this right? I bought my first hair online, not a salon, that's why I need the advice. Thanks, hugs, Tracey
