I've been seeing a very well-known therapist for two months and am no longer able to afford to go. I've also been seeing a social worker once a week for almost three months who basically sees me for free. I understand the social worker has no ability to diagnose or prescribe but I was wondering what I can do.

I can't afford the gender therapist anymore and have not seen her long enough to obtain a prescription. I feel like I'm back to square one and I could just jump out of my skin. Is there any way my gyno could write the prescription? I don't have another doctor that knows me and sees me regularly other than my gyno.

Any advice would help tremendously. Thank you.

Thank you for your help. I left a message for my therapist a few days ago about my situation and I haven't heard back but I will call again. Somehow, I don't think it will make a difference.

I am now wondering if maybe my social worker could make a recommendation for me.  ???

My gyno told me he has had trans patients before...maybe that will help but I highly doubt I'll get a prescription from him and that is totally fine with me. I MAY be able to go back to my family doctor, whom I ditched five years ago as a stubborn teenager. I am concerned that if he accepts me back, he'll think I'm only trying to get hormones out of him. Which would be my goal. I guess it's worth a try though!

I don't know how much the prescription will cost. I'm hoping it's less than what therapy was costing me. Can anyone give me an estimate?

FYI I live in Ottawa, Ontario.

I am seeing Helma. I left her another message and am still waiting to hear back. I'm going to see my social worker tomorrow and I'm gonna see if there's something she can do to help with my situation.

I am on disability also so I'm glad to hear that T should be covered. Helma never explained that she had sliding-scale fees and she's known that I've barely been able to make ends meet. It doesn't make sense to me because she's been wonderful with me so far. Oh well.  ::)

I hope it's not too late for you to talk to Barwin about the recommendation requirements. I REALLY appreciate all your help and suggestions.

Thanks.
