If you liked that one I highly recommend Felidae, though I will warn you, it is NOT for squirmy people!! and, it's possibly the most graphic and disturbing movie I've seen!

I second this entirely. Felidae was great. But yes, very graphic and it had some pretty wicked nightmare scenes, but it's absolutely worth the watch. It's pleasantly spooky at times, and downright horrific at others. I haven't seen it in a few years, but I know the whole movie is on youtube (the German version, at least).
What the hell was that?!                 From every wound there is a scar,
Spaceball 1.                                     and every scar tells a story.
*gasp* They've gone to plaid!        A story that says,
                                                        "I survived."

Paranormal Activity 3.

Very disappointing. I've had scarier bowel movements. It suffers a lot from Sequelitis and the end is just silly. I would say it's too short, but to be frank I see no reason to drag it out anymore than it is. Definitely not value for money. You get a sense that some of the "jumpy bits" were shoehorned into it to break up the tedium rather than because they have any actual bearing on anything. And since it's supposed to be based on the character in the first one when she was younger... having watched the first one (don't get me started) this film bears no relation to the things Katie was actually talking about in it, with regard to what actually happened to her.

2/10 (the 2 is for the special features on the DVD, which are actually better than the film itself) ::)

Sephirah, I haven't even seen the first two lol, but I'll definitely steer clear of them.

A movie I have recently (re)watched is Return to Oz starring Fairuza Balk when she was about 10. From what I've read it's a much more accurate adaptation of the books by author Lyman Frank Baum than the original film was, but was not as much of a commercial success due to it's "darker" tone. I actually prefer this film to the overly silly glitzy sing-along first film. Released by Disney in 1985.

Maybe it's just me. A lot of people I've spoken to seem to rave about them and say that the movies leave them a quivering mass of trembling sweatiness and chewed nails, afraid to leave the room without a full SWAT team and / or something heavy to use as a bludgeon. At a push I suppose I can see why. They try to inject realism, a little like The Blair Witch Project (which, in my opinion, is about ten orders of magnitude better).

Unfortunately it takes something quite apocolyptically nightmarish to scare me. Beelzebub tapdancing naked on my doorstep with the whole Infernal Host would probably just make me giggle.

Not to mention I've seen or heard a large majority of the same phenomena in my own house, so it's really nothing new.

Interestingly, I've always thought of that as a far darker story than it's portrayed.

@ Donna:  Would you recommend it?  I've been wondering about that movie.

I just saw The Retreat, a movie from the UK.  It was such a good movie and kept me on the edge of my seat, but the ending had me bawling.

I've never seen Blair Witch either lol, maybe I should? I did love Cloverfield due to it's gritty, home-movie quality, though a lot of people hated it for that exact reason. Some people just don't appreciate art or storytelling. "Moar splodies and pew pew!"

For sure. It's more psychological than a gore-fest. Just don't watch the sequel (Book of Shadows), it's a travesty that should be buried in quicklime for all eternity. I quite liked Cloverfield, too, particularly for the way it was shot.

I liked Cloverfield and didn't mind the home-movie gimmick. I feel like it's getting a little worn out now, though. Sometimes it gets rather contrived and distracting. Blair Witch was marketed heavily on the idea of convincing most people that it was a true story. It was a decent movie but not great, but the excellent marketing made it a huge hit and made it scarier to the people who bought into the true story thing. I think it's the same idea with Paranormal Activity. To some extent, even the people who know it's not real, they're still sorta buying into it on some level because it looks like a home movie and that seemed to help Paranormal as well.

It bugged me a lot in Chronicles, though I still enjoyed the movie. It just seemed like they had to come up with sometimes hard-to-believe reasons why someone there is holding a camera. They couldn't just tell the story and let us watch. It got so contrived at times that it was distracting me from just enjoying the movie.

I think movie makers need to be a little more picky about the stories that this style will be appropriate for.

If you have a fear of the dark and like horror, yes otherwise not really it's just okay. Last movie i watched was Wall Street, don't know anything about Stock Exchange but it was still nice :).

I remember that line!

April Dawne

I just re-watched 2006's Superman Returns, starring Brandon Routh Kate Bosworth, and Kevin Spacey.

I really really REALLY don't get all the hate with this film. It's just as touching and moving and meaningful as the Richard Donner/Christopher Reeve films and also continued with that well-established continuity perfectly. The sense of nostalgia and "wow this IS Superman" I felt every time I watched it is undeniable. I really wish they had kept with this continuity and just advanced the story, because I thought they had a great cast. Brandon was SO perfect for the role.

Some people complained that "Superman didn't PUNCH anyone." .... but has that really EVER been the point of Superman? How heroic is punching someone? Watching Superman Returns, all I see are great feats of true heroism. He literally saves hundreds of lives. Without having to resort to violence. THAT is the mark of a true hero to me. That is Superman. I don't know what the next film has in store, but I hope it retains the  sense of heroism, the feeling that Superman is above doing anything petty, just to feel better for a few seconds, by knocking someone out. If you want to watch someone who hits people a lot, watch Batman. Superman isn't about that.

R.I.P Christopher Reeves.... you are still missed.
