I'm a plastic molding specialist. I have the pleasure of playing with molten plastic, giant molds and presses and overhead cranes. I am also a graphic designer and 3D artist.

Well I worked for the SF Giants serving hot dogs and hot chocolate. I say carnie though.
As for not having a job, I am a lazy adult currently til the legal stuff occurs. But I sure read a lot of books and watch movies.

Naw. I did the job because my "mom worked there". I hate baseball, boring as hell. Now boxing, extreme fighting, extreme bullfighting, UFC etc... Hell to the yeah!
The internet is preventing me from finding a husband since I've been with a married man 1.7 years.

I'm a book editor. Or at least I am when I'm employed. Took some time off to get through transition - surgeries, legal crap, moving cities - so not doing anything more than part-time stuff.
I love my real job, and I HATE not doing what I'm trained for. So bored.

Yep! It's a variety of things - from reading through submissions, to writing rejection letters, to checking the proofs for typos, to fixing grammatical and punctuation errors, to fact checking, to rewording and condensing text, to suggesting changes to plot and character development, etc.
I'm like a midwife for books. ;)

I am a "Special Operations Manager". I am the one person in the company of 3,000 people that gets tasked with whatever everyone else can't do. Most of the time I am figuring out my job as I'm doing it or as I'm bidding it. I have a lot of latitude to do things my way and they trust me to get stuff done without too much grilling.
I'm kind of bummed though becasue just as my career is gaining momentum and going international, I am looking at leaving by the end of next year due to transition. I am headed to Africa in about 2 weeks and part of the trip will put me in Uganda alone for 5 days which makes me really nervous. It is very likely that over the next year, I will spend 8-9 months between Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. I guess at some point I will come back to HQ and they will say , "Can I help you m'am"? lol
Maybe I will have filled their coffers enough that they just dont care?
This was 30-40 lbs ago and 6 months beforeHRT.

Caregiver N farmer now
1960's pre adult = 1963 - 64 tipping at grocery stores while loading womens groceries in their cars, 1964 -65 newspaper delivery + recycling newspapers, 1965 washing dishes, 1966 digging graves, putting studs in tires for .50c each and made 5.00 an hour when auto mechanics made 1.60 and i was just a young teen and they were adults and had families.
1967 ran away to calif and hitched all over the usa and mendocino county calif where a hippie lived and we got free canned food from the state
1968 put in haverford state mental hospital for wearing womens clothes and spent 2 4 months stints there as just being gay was a mental illness and being trans was weirder
1969 washing dishes at NJ Y camp in poconos and went to woodstock but got stuck on NY state freeway so i went back and watched moon landing
1969 to 1974 hitch hiked the USA before there were interstates. and lived at many communes around the usa. and stayed at salvation armies in small towns which were usually at peoples private homes in their spare bedrooms but mostly under bridges and in woods.
1974 i made the oxygen nixon would breathe when flying in his air force one in USMC less than a yr in service because nixon was getting impeached so i got out too. general under honorable.
Started a recycling center in redway Calif in 75-76 and did parks and recreation in garberville's tooby park
1976 met first trans lesbian in eureka calif who had undergone electro and told me it was not for me.. but i did have my first intimate relationship with a woman who was a lesbian and she didn't touch my penis.
1977 to 1979 pot grower, spring developer, hippie ranch developer
Purchased antique furniture from NJ and drove it across country in late 70's - early 80's and sold it to hippies in humboldt county Calif and brought back redwood and had a store on east coast selling redwood stuff i made or brought back. In 3 yrs i made over 30 round trips across country mostly going 45mph with a 26 ft box truck which took me 7 days each way.
1984 tried to transition first but was told i had to like men which i went gagghh ewww
1985 to 1996 (My sober cleans yrs) = Builder of 6 apartments and 4 homes and (I developed a 200 acre farm which i sold to transition) which i owned them all and had 6 mortgages at one time and i then Ran homes (i built) for recovering addicts for 13 yrs i was one too. Oh i had my first son then at 5 yrs clean.
1997 sold properties to recovering peeps and bought 200 acre farm in virginia which i developed and built a 1 mile drive and put in septic and springs and water tanks and built 4 story barn and almost built a B+B and got married and separated in 20 days and had second son.
1998 Transitioned and lived off savings but then gave it all away to open trans safe homes from 2000 - 2003
2004 - 2006 elder care for a hippies mom in humboldt county calif redwoods also developed their land into a farm
2006 to 2008 elder care back east and worked for anti=war effort and Obama campaign and delegate
2008 to now moms caregiver and 2010 a farmer too
Basically i have been self employed my whole life since 15.. except for washing dishes the digging graves was for each grave i dug. I was a fast digger :)
There was also many many part time jobs doing work for people on their properties as a laborer

Yup ... I have placed two transgender girls in troops this year and I know of three other ones in our council. They have been very supportive of me transitioning too ... infact today they changed my email address without a second thought -- it's our legal name and they changed it to my preferred name

Now that I have time to breathe, I'll elaborate more on my various occupations
I'm also trained in programming 3 different types of robots we use on our presses, Machining, welding, Bench fitting, fabrication and some electronics. Other jobs I've done include PC repair -self taught- Park maintenance, Breakdown Coordinator for Celadon Trucking, Fork lift operator, Air Force trained Jet Engine Mechanic. I've also worked in Automotive A/C. I've used my graphics skills for Jenn Entertainment to design their logo and a few promo booklets for their clients. I also use Lightwave to do computer modelling and animation. my on and off project has been a detailed model of a Peterbilt 379, right down to the screws on the marker light bezels. I'm self taught on that too. I also love to write stories.
Just some examples..

Currently working as a cashier at a local supermarket. It's actually my second day of training !
I really want to become an animator though. Ever since I found the 3ds max program during CAD class I've been hooked to making animations, and I really want to become better at it. Maybe I'll also try to take up character modeling or art or something. To be honest, my drawings are pretty lousy.

I'm a student cabinet maker right now. Planning to build a stringed instrument for my final project (working on a chair as we speak). I'll probably continue woodworking for the rest of my life 'cause I love it. Though I might study for another four years after I'm done 'cause times aren't that good and I can still get money from the government if I do! Would love to do something with biology or animals!

I like to say I'm gainfully unemployed, just without the gainfully part. I've been out of permanent work for 5 years now, doing only temp stuff when I could, and am still desperately searching for a job. What I DO is write,--- have been writing stories since I was 6, novels since 11--- cook, play music, and have big dreams. I have about 10 great, viable business ideas right now, but don't really have the self-confidence to put anything into motion. So I'm looking for some crappy, low-paying, newly "classic American" part-time to full-time job, despite having a bachelor's degree and plenty of talent. Oh well.

It really does, I found that employers do look at how you present, its the first thing they see. Given your current avatar...you've got a Killer Natural Look, could you replicate that on someone else? Its like a resume, the idea is to get their attention, get an interview.

At this time any old odd job will do. It is hard to find a job here if you are over 50. I am living off of my savings and has paid everything off before I got laid off. Some of my friends who worked with me did not. Sadly, they are in debt.

Chief financial officer of what used to be a large commercial contractor. I also handle safety issues. I have not obviously transitioned, but am sure some noticed when the facial hair came off. Five years of hormones have left me a bit "breasty" also. This is not a good industry for transition, though the pay is (was) really good. Have been taking courses to transition into another field that I hope will be friendlier.

My biggest problem was finding another who loved themself. Many wanted to just get intimate but that was going to lead to a dead end situation real fast. Yes i love me and girls like me who love themselves ;)

I will stay 5 nights at Hilton San Francisco Union Square in the upcoming December. I just hope to walk to Wal-mart or Target store to purchase some fashion items that are difficult to purchase here (Yesterday I received two pairs of athletic leggings from amazon.com. International delivery cost was $41.97, and the product cost was $43.18).

Before that I was working as a pilot (stopped doing that 2010) and that was because of my identification problems. I want to go back but if I will manage? that is the big IF.

I was an airline pilot a few years back, but that traditionally male occupation is a bit hard to combine with a transition so it didn't really work out as I hoped it would.
Now I am studying geology and hope to finish in 3 years. I plan to get my transition done in such way that I can present myself convincingly as female when hitting the job market again.
Personally I say it is either 11km up or 2km down, others say I have fallen from the heavens, hit rock bottom and now I start digging.
I really hope that things will go well for you :).
What and where did you fly?
I really enjoyed flying. And the F/As and I used to get along very well, I had lots of fun. Want to go back but I think it is almost impossible =/.
And now I am a farmer, not the best place to be either :P. But I will come up with something sooner or later I think.

Currently I work in the oil/gas industry... a very male dominated redneck mentality workplace. I can almost guarantee that I will lose my job when I come out. I have heard several co workers state that they would 'beat the ->-bleeped-<- outta any ->-bleeped-<-'... not exactly encouraging. :'( Because of this, I am looking to retrain in a more trans friendly environment. I was considering being a hairstylist... but is that too stereotypical? I could take the course telling people I want to be a 'barber'... then when I finally come out, I'm pretty sure that I would still have work... one of the many things on my 'to worry about' list...

My head is spinning right now regarding my occupation.
I am professional musician and music instructor but I had to get myself a steady job after the birth of my daughter.
So I have been a tropical plant technician or nurse if you will. I prefer the latter term myself.
But now my daughters bio mom got a job and she is gonna be working full time by the end of January and I am being faced to either pay most of my income to the child care or become a home stay mom.
However I am not romantically involved with my daughter's mom any longer but the financial necessity has forced us to remain in the same household. I have been supporting us for the past 3 years. Now I still can't move out and I am looking into being completely dependent on her. On the top of it I have an interview tomorrow for a nanny position for taking care of a 4 and 2.5 year old plus my 2.5 years old daughter. I pass fairly well by when faced with new people and their children the stakes are a bit higher and I wonder how, when and if I should come out to them. And the people wanted German speaking nanny which is what I can do but I haven,t had a chance to speak German in past 10 years and the father is native speaker! Oh sweat, sweat!

Very wierd indeed - the "pilot thing" - my father was rated on EveryThing as Exec VP Ops/Chief Pilot Nor'Atlantic for Pan American many years but the really wierd thing is his best Captain friend "George", who was married & lived just down the street from us growing up as kids, became "Georgette" and this was in the early 707 mid-sixties !!!
Well, ultimately lol my "coming out" to him, thus primed already, just 6 years ago wasn't as difficult as i had thought it would be! I Was Idiot Customer Service, fly free retired for life but otherwise DO NOT MISS AIRLINE FLYING at all . . .
. . . as the novelty of just getting into those "better fed cabin back there seats" has definitely worn off for sure!

I'm currently working in a call center where I'm part of a team that enrolls people in their group insurance benefits. I've done this for the past month.
Prior to this temp gig, I sold windows and doors for a large home improvement company. That job lasted 4 months, but the hours and drive time was a killer.
What both of these jobs have done is return my confidence. I was jobless for better than two years, though I was interviewing periodically.
It took me being forced to go into people's home's doing direct sales to realize that people accepted me simply as the woman I am. My fear had been holding me back, big time.
While working in the call center, I've worked hard on my voice, with much success. I will say, however, that 6 hours on the phone requires lots of constant sips of H20.
Unless I decide differently, I plan on going back into the field as an insurance saleswoman come December. (I had owned my own insurance agency for 14 years prior to transition)
I guess we don't realize how transition will be for each of us. I thought I had planned it all so well, but it took me an additional 3 years to find my footing as a woman out in the daily work a day world. I'm glad to have arrived! :eusa_dance:

I'm currently loading and unloading aircraft with a fairly well known airline.
I know I want to be a pilot. I have about 45-50 hours toward my private certificate and I have made my first solo cross country. I'm afraid that being trans will keep me from my dream. Any input? Right now though, I'm trying to get *me* squared away before putting any more money into training.
Even if I can't become a pilot, I know I would like to stay in the airline industry, possibly as an aircraft mechanic.

Before that I was working as a pilot (stopped doing that 2010) and that was because of my identification problems. I want to go back but if I will manage? that is the big IF.

At the moment I think the worldwide recession is a much larger issue in finding a job as an airline pilot than being trans is.

Yeah, that sounds perfect. Working for IATSE in theater (the poor red-headed stepchild where every penny is pinched until it screams), and in touring rock (the nouveau riche cousin were everything looks nice, but is fake) movie set and shoots are just money fountains. While I'm sure that somewhere there are accounts blowing fuses it always seemed to me that cost was never a problem when it came to doing movies.

There is a man here in Colorado who has been building his own castle since 1969. For years, it was a one-man labor of love, but in recent years he has had some help on secondary projects. http://www.bishopcastle.org (http://www.bishopcastle.org) Having visited in person, I am uncomfortable with some of his construction methods, but it is an interesting project.
The site appears to not have been updated for quite some time.

Jobs seem to be increasing, albeit slowly. All my friends were able to find jobs a few months past graduation and they range from electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and biomedical engineering. I know in my case I was usually interviewed for a position but then rejected in lieu of someone who has their engineering license/experience. It's not impossible to find a job.
Btw, you are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! I'm jealous :P

Just got hired to fly a private jet for some locals around here. And I hope to be able to transition while having that job! I just need the money.
Hopefully the people will accept me as I am. In the end it was them who sought me out anyway.

Congratulations! Do you have to pay for your type rating and have you mentioned your plans to transition in your interview?
Still no jobs here on the eastern side of the pond.
Thanks :). The TR will be paid for by the company so no expenses for me *yay :D*
I havent mentioned anything yet, mostly because I was so taken off guard when the company told me that they want me and asked if I could start in December, I mean how often do a company call you witout a CV or anytning?.
But I will talk so the HR person about it the next week when we will have a meeting. The thing is that I know the recruiter personally and he is also my dads friend, so I hope that it will be to my benefit.
And we will fly the same people all the time so I will do my best to make them like me ;).
Are you jobhunting now? if that is the case I wish you all the best :). There are almost no jobs here either, this was just pure luck because the recruiter heard about me just at the right moment.

I am building a wellhouse out of stone from my property. The stone walls are only 3ft tall on top of 4ft tall basement walls made of poured concrete which will be covered with mortar to give them an aged look. My walls are 12 inchs wide and free standing with no wood frame behind them so its slow going. It will take me 5 days to go 46 ft long 3ft high on sides and higher at ends for door and window and center beam. Oh i am not a stone mason.. just need to do this for my access to my hand dug well in winter time..

Dear Cynthia:
Well now, it appears that you have revived this 8 year old dormant thread... I am glad that you posted on it now.
I think it is quite interesting to find out what our current members and forum's friends do for a living (or did for a living if they are retired), and what their job and career related skills entail.
I notice that here on the Forums there are a lot of members, that like yourself are involved in IT related industries.
As most of my followers are aware, I am a CPA and own and operate my own small woman-owned accounting business. I am involved in financial related work for my business and personal clients, tax and payroll tasks, and financial planning.
Before I quit my male-mode job in December 2016 I was the head Accounting executive for a small nationwide business. I quit that job, and in my transition journey I immediately became full-time and relocated to where I am now and started my business. I have never looked back... it has been an enjoyable and fulfilling change in my life in both personal and work related endeavors.
Again, Cynthia thank you for reviving this old dormant thread... I am looking forward to seeing many of our current member's posting. I am finding it very interesting.
HUGS,
Danielle

@Alaskan Danielle, how cool ! I knew of you doing taxes for others, by reading other threads but did not know all of your work history, thanks for sharing here in this topic. Congratulations on starting and operating a woman owned CPA business in AK, very intriguing story !
Yes, I am glad you noticed me finding these "classic posts" buried deep in the forum archives, some of them asking some really interesting questions and seeing other's responses is a fun side activity I enjoy here at Susan's. If I can add something to the conversation, I will revive a thread of course knowing the OP has most likely long since moved on, yet it gives others a chance to see new topics and answer, sometimes taking on a life of their own ;) One classic post I answer started in 2005 and then somebody revived it 7 years into the future back in 2012, and by gosh I found it on it's 7th aniversary in 2019 :) I just had to answer it, as this topic was waiting 7 years into the future twice !! how like "rare" to find this....

Well, I am retired these days. But I have been a flying instructor in the RCAF, and then I spent many years in IT, first as an employee and then as a contractor. I did general application programming, then moved up to systems analysis. My specialty was security on the particular operating system that my employer used. We never had a hacker compromise the system.

I've been semi retired for the last 5 1/2 years. I had a 33 year career with the local electric utility in So Cal. My last position was as a Project Manager in the accounting department. We supported the work done by the guys in the big trucks. Now I work part time for a contractor to that same utility doing the type of work I did a lot earlier in my career. (wages are much better this time around and no union dues!)

Thank you for sharing... and I liked your "fun" metaphorical card. :)

I clicked on this post noticing it was from 2011 and saw your comment and thought "uh oh, someone is in trouble" but your response was very positive. Lots of forums I've seen don't like it when people do this so that's really neat. Just wanted to mention that.

As for my answer to the thread, I am a freelance video editor/creator and motion graphics artist. It's both fun and tedious but I enjoy it. So hit me up if you're in the need for such services :p Here's my metaphorical card [__] (did this count as an advertisement violation, I'll remove that part if so, just wanted to make that card joke)

@Evienne @CynthiaAnn @KathyLauren @Bea1968 @Perry @Linde
As is evident from all of the responses we all have talents and abilities that are well worth mentioning.
For our own self-respect it is important to not only know how we can each contribute to society but also it is good to see how our forums friends and like-minded members also fit into the puzzle.
For example, I may be a good accountant, but I know nothing about what Evienne does with video editing and graphics, and as far as what you do Cynthia, I stumble along dealing with computers and such. And as far as flying a plane or jet, I will overwhelmingly trust you KathyLauren to take the controls.
Thank you ALL for contributing to this revived thread.
HUGS,
Danielle

Well, I am retired these days. But I have been a flying instructor in the RCAF, and then I spent many years in IT, first as an employee and then as a contractor. I did general application programming, then moved up to systems analysis. My specialty was security on the particular operating system that my employer used. We never had a hacker compromise the system.

@Kalandrina
Wow... another IT specialist. Lots of members here with good computer knowledge and skills.
Like most Windows users, I enjoyed XP for many years, then went to WindowsVista and was very disappointed until finally Windows7 came along.... I loved it.
I never did go with the disastrous Windows8 and I dragged my feet for a couple of years until I finally had the nerve to go with Windows10....
....here is a cute photo that depicts of what I originally thought of changing from Windows7 to Windows10
The good news is that Windows10 was a refreshing success after the Windows8 debacle.
Thanks for sharing and posting.

My first real job was in 1969 working at YAMAHA in the computer room. I learned a little cobal. The computer we had filled a rather large room with tape reels. The computing power at the time was ridiculously limited. It was a great first job as all my friends were making $1.65 and I was making $4. Then I moved on to Northrop where I monitored the old punch card job reporting machines. During inventory we found a few million dollars in lost parts. I was then assigned to expedite for the YF 17 program. The precurser to the F18 that we lost the contract for because we didn't have experience with carrier landing gear. So we lost the contract and it went to McDonnell Douglas. The irony is that the initial F18's from MD were three years late because you guessed it. They could not develop a proper landing gear. After losing the contract I went to Allied Signal for the next 20 years. I've been Master Scheduler, Industrial Engineer, and computer guru. I created an MRP system that would automate the use of remanufactured parts if I could get the necessary system space which at the time about a half a million dollars for a gig of memory. Look what we have today. A terebyte on your PC. I also set up a color code to identify parts before the are machined so they didn't get made into something else. We were losing over a million dollars in parts by being misidentified. I created over 70,000 item masters. Finally I trained the materials people in Mexicali who took over my job due to Nafta. Oh I was principle in our first six sigma assignment and we took the design approval time for over 90 days to 3. Getting product introduced 3 months sooner.
In 1997 I moved to Washington and worked at Boeing and was a SME for their billion dollar system consolidation. After that I worked in Purchasing where I was rated by my peers as the most productive person in the department. Then I had a heart attack and got replaced by a Desi in India. I have been retired since 2013. Notice that on all my jobs I positively affected the bottom line. That's how you make three years in college enough to keep a job and compete with graduates. Money Talks... And I have made people like Larry Bossidy, Harry Stonecipher and Jim McNerney millions and millions of dollars. What do they all have in common? They were yes men for Jack Walsh the guy who laid off 100000 General Electric employees and started the exodus of American jobs overseas and the beginning of exorbitant CEO salaries.

Dear Dawn:
Thank you so much for sharing your story.
I think that I remember reading in one of your other postings that you were "thinking" of moving back to California.... Southern California again or up North this time????
Do you have a city or area in mind, or are you staying in Washington State.
You have had quite a range of employment experiences and undoubtedly are quite adept at any job that you have done.... or will do.
By the way, I love your new Avatar Profile picture....
Thank you again for sharing.
Hugs and best wishes to you.

Cool Dawn, I remember structured cobol :) and IBM (370, 360) main frames filling rooms with tape readers as you mentioned, along with huge removable disks (DASD), 4 MB of CPU ram was very expensive then. At my first computer job I made $2.30 (CA minimum wage) as a computer console operator (1976, large oil company), we had punch cards for JCL (job control language), in this huge room full of machines...
Have a nice day

I am so very glad that you posted and shared here on this thread. I recall from our many conversations during this last year that you were switching your employment opportunities and that you earned your teaching credentials.
In my own personal experience with different jobs that have had, it is not nearly as important what I do for a living as far as a title and paycheck but it is more important to follow my passions and interests. I am a much happier person doing that.
Thank you again for sharing.

I was a field engineer for a scientific equipment company. It's just another term for a chemist who knows how to run spectrometers and knows the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver.
The constant travel got old and I got an offer to do the same basic job for a university while getting to work on my PhD and that's where I am now. The pay is lousy and the hours are long but at least I'm not living out of hotels 4-5 nights a week. Having a fun project to work on keeps things interesting.

Blender! I tried learming that for a few hours one day but I just found it too confusing to get the harder stuff done.
Maya, zbrush, Moi, were my modelling staples with adobe creative cloud my editors. Renderers were maya software, mental ray and then Octane.
Most of the work i did was tv ad animations, architecture fly throughs, jewellery modelling and 3d printing for engineering prototypes and scale models for viz.
What type of 3d work do you do?

@Sonja, Mostly boring graphics stuff like logo design, but have also made some interesting images for contests and my personal use, as well as co-authored a book on how to use blender that sold really well. I have never used Maya, but I remember at one point they appropriated the UV unwrapping code from Blender, and we had to ask them to remove it. They hadn't understood the licence, apparently.

Wow.... you girls sure have found a common thread regarding your past work experience.....
.... I definitely do not understand much about what you are both discussing but it sounds to me like you certainly know what you are talking about.
Now, if you were talking about accounting practices, financial planning and tax laws I would be in my world of knowledge.
In my opinion this is what this thread is all about ... learning about the skills and job experience that other members possess here on the forums.
It is a good testimony that here on the Forums that members here have a wide variety of knowledge and abilities ....
Thank you for sharing.... please continue on, I will definitively learn something as you post more comments.
Hugs and best wishes,
Danielle

@Sonja, Mostly boring graphics stuff like logo design, but have also made some interesting images for contests and my personal use, as well as co-authored a book on how to use blender that sold really well. I have never used Maya, but I remember at one point they appropriated the UV unwrapping code from Blender, and we had to ask them to remove it. They hadn't understood the licence, apparently.

Yes, I am considering San Jose. Jo is leaving bread crumbs that she would want me to move out. It's a very tuff decision because of my kids and grandkids. Also my pension does not exist due to medical Bill's so ss is it.

My wife keeps trying to push me into IT and that is my biggest complaint. Spend a lot of time and money learning something and in short order it is rendered obsolete.

Not to worry ..... "IT" and various computer related skills in some form will be much needed long after you and I are gone. Obviously the computer field will continually evolve, change and increase in the foreseeable future.
The real key is to find some kind of work that you have a passion for, have some knowledge of, and can make some income from doing it.
There is an old and very wise saying that is sometimes contributed to Confucius....
"If a man (person) has a job that he loves, he will never have to work a day in his life."
Thank you for posting your thoughts.
Best Wishes,
Danielle

NT 3.51 was clobbering Novell Netware during this time period, when NT 4.0 came to market in '96, the writing was on the wall for Netware. I had the Novell CNE 3/4, then later the MSCE 4.0, having those certs paid nice dividends in the 90's

Actually, obsolescence gave me some job security.
I worked on maintaining the VMS operating system for years. Once Windoze came out, everything went that direction. Except our system. It was all custom software (back in the day, no one used off-the-shelf software: it was all purpose-written), and every time they had someone investigate migrating it to a more modern platform, the answer always came back that the cost would be astronomical. Since we had to keep the software, we had to keep the operating system.
Eventually, it got to the point where VMS systems were a rarity, and people who knew how to maintain them were even rarer. I didn't have the skill set to work on a more modern system, but I had job security where i was.

Funny human pathogens never become obsolete. And those microorganism can still be identified by gram staining, nothing has changed at all!
All the young kids in the labs are still working on the same microorganism I did a felt century ago!

I am most interested in what is your thought process in desiring to do such a drastic change in career paths?
Both career paths have great employment opportunities, but i am thinking that no matter where you live, no matter how big or small the city, there is and will be a burgeoning demand for health care professionals... however if electrical engineering is your passion and interest then by all means, what are you waiting for!!!
Best of luck to you and best wishes,

Its a good question. If you are a RN depending on what you do the pay cap is hit kind of fast. the treatment on the job isnt that good. we are sometimes assaulted, ive know a few nurses that have been stabbed by patients. two who have taken a bullet (both survived). Plus they are always cutting our resources and expecting us to pick up the slack while giving us more work each year. I love nursing but hate what the business people have done to it. Plus it would be nice to not work most of the holidays and not have so much mandatory overtime. I always wanted to go into electrical engineering but thought nursing would be easier. So Far im enjoying classes and internships. Also electrical engineering qualifies me for some jobs I would like to do in other countries. My daughter and I would like to immigrate to another country if we are lucky enough to.

I currently work with emerging tech like Blockchain for my multinational employer.

I started out as a Tape Application Specialist .. Ok, I made that title up. I applied foil tape to the seams of recently insulated duct work behind the 'experienced' men. It was a summer job that lasted 11 years. By the time I left I was 3rd in the company. When they did work that was going to be where people could see it, I was called in before anyone else. No, it wasn't just tape by then :P Commercial Insulation ... there's more to it than most people know. Who am I kidding, most people don't even know it's a thing.
I made it a few years with another company before I got hurt and had to stop .. welcome to the retail IT world where I spent the next, hmmm, 14 years? then on to my current position of Network Administrator for a local broadcasting company
hows that for a 'what I do' summary?

I do intend to attend college. I wanted to get my SRS first though. Then when it came time to start my dad asked if I could possibly wait until this fall because his finances were still recovering from my SRS. That's very understandable. Between my Surgery, hotel and airfare for him, myself,Tyler and Tristan he spent a total of almost $30,000. Of course I told him I would wait. It dawned on me that you guys probably wonder how a cop can afford that kind of expense. No, my dad doesn't make a lot as a cop. He does it. Because he enjoys it. Not the power trip over other people, he enjoys helping people who need help. Actually my dad is one of the nicest policemen in Denver. You would Actually have to MAKE him get mean with you. As long as people behave he will let them use his cellphone to make a call before he takes them to jail. If they have cigarettes on them he will stop a block from the jail and let them have a last cigarette before they go in. They have to smoke in handcuffs though. Lol. But niceness doesn't apply to pedophiles, wife beaters, child abusers or people who commit a hate crime.
But anyway my dad inherited a lot of money from his grandparents. How much I don't know. It's really not my business. Tristan is so weird about money. He's not stingy by any stretch. He just HATES to owe anyone money.
My dad payed Tristan's airfare. The only reason he let him was because he couldn't afford a first class ticket at that time but he really wanted to go with me. After we got home, at the end of Tristan's work week he immediately payed my dad back for the plane ticket and his half of the hotel room he and Tyler shared. Got pride much? No one likes a sponge of course but geeze, he didn't have to pay him back all at once. Tristan also pays my dad rent. My dad has told him he doesn't need to do that but he insists. I told my dad he just not accept it. He told me that doing that to the type of man Tristan is, would be very insulting to him. Whatever. Must be another male pride thing.🙄

That sounds awful! I can't even imagine how hot you got doing that. Our attic is very stuffy in the winter and an oven in the summer. The A/C guy had to go in there to fix a duct and when he came out he was totally soaked. Poor guy.

Not quite the same work, still hot and nasty from ditches to attics, pipes to duct work. The hottest attic that I remember was a school. They added a 2nd roof and we had to work between them. The thermometers in there topped out at 140F they stayed pegged at the top past the last marking. I wore wire frame glasses at the time. I had to keep them at the end of my nose because the frames would burn my skin.

Right after college I worked in a beauty supply warehouse as assistant manager for about five years, then I worked with an insulation company going out and insulating homes and barns. After I got married I went to seminary and have been (get this) a pastor for over 26 years now. I am currently a pastor nearing retirement. But all this may change because I am transgender and the church I am a part of does not accept this lifestyle. So I'm kind of in a tough spot because I plan to transition soon.

After the military, I worked as an Electronics Technician. I specialized in Security and Fire Alarm Systems. That extended to commercial telephone/intercom, Master Clock systems in schools, Nurse Call systems in hospitals and nursing homes, commercial sound systems in churches, funeral homes, and gymnasiums. I slipped on some ice and injured my neck which put me on permanent disability.
I was searching for an alternative to pain management. I was popping Vicodin like Skittles and wanted to find a way to manage my pain. I stumbled across hypnosis and became very interested in hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I went back to school and became certified in both the US and the UK. I had a private practice specializing in pain management until I retired. I moved here to South Dakota and have been a gold prospector ever since.

For over 25 years I worked in numerous customer service roles within call centres. Originally this was probably in hindsight to allow me to 'hide'. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Only thing, due to regulations I did have to confirm with callers they were dealing with David....
I made some good friends with fellow colleagues over the years.
Currently now as Wendy I'm a cleaning contractor, cleaning offices and small business premises. I think being slightly OCD helps as to why this job...lol
Nothing prouder than wearing my polo-shirt with Wendy embroidered on chest.

I have been in technology since the industry began "back in the day". Started out as a software engineer woking on image processing applications used in manufacturing. I have been lucky enough to work on the "bleeding edge" stuff that most people take for granted these days. Today I am getting ready to retire in a few months and start my new life chapter(s) with my wife.
