Who would win? I vote Superman!

Ok, if anyone is wondering how fast Superman is: In Infinite Crisis, Superman flew from Earth to the Andromeda Galaxy about 1 hour.

2.5 million light years--> Light moves at 3*10^8 m/s --> In 7.8894*10^13 s (2.5 million years times 31,557,600 s/year) --> Distance of 2.36682*10^22 m--> 1 hour = 3,600 s --> Superman's speed = 6.5745*10^18 m/s = 2.1915*10^10 times the speed of light.

But Goku has instant transmission, so he could get to Andromeda instantaneously...

I can't help picturing Gokup going up to Superman and saying "Imma deck you in the schnozz!" like he did to Freiza (I'm a fan of the Team Four Star DBZ Abridged series)

Well, Goku may be able to travel instantly using IT, but he himself can't do so. If he used IT to get behind Superman, Superman would detect him right away and give him a planet-splitting knuckle sandwich.  :P

That wouldn't actually be Goku, though.  He'd be using the After Image technique, so Superman would be punching nothing but air!

Well, Superman has very fast reflexes, so the instant that Goku actually appears, he's toast. He'll have to stop using the afterimage eventually.

Diana, yes he'll have to stop using afterimage after the first few times but that doesn't mean Goku doesn't have fast reflexes too!  He did fairly well against Jeice and Burter fighting them at the same time.  And then he took on Freiza, where Goku moved so fast that 5 minutes stretched out into 5 episodes!

I also think Goku would fight fair and avoid using Kryptonite on Superman, so that won't work as a weakness.  And the Spirit bomb won't work against pure hearted people... hmmm... Defending Goku is going to get tricky soon...

Well, the afterimage is produced by Goku moving, not using IT, so Superman would be able to catch him.

About that 5 minutes, 5 episodes thing: I have always loathed DBZ for that.

One episode: "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
5 episodes later: "AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

I never watched dragon ball z (although I probably would have liked it when I was a kid) but didn't goku come back from the dead or something? That sounds more impressive than anything super man ever did. Besides, he's not bothered by kryptonite so I'm pretty sure goku could do some kind of spirit bomb / kryptonite combo. Sure maybe he'd need a few minutes but he could hide while he's doing it since super man isn't omniescent.

Bruce schemed to have the two fight each other so that, in their weakened state, he could easily subdue them both.

I don't think superman can listen to everything at once, come on. If anything I think this would be a weakness becuase you could disorient him with different sounds.

Besides, did you ever hear of the Cocktail effect? It's the ability to decide what you hear. For example, you can have a conversation on a busy train or at a... cocktail party (hence the name). Superman can hone in on Goku. Even if he doesn't, at his speed, he can search the entire vicinity easily. And if that fails, the spirit bomb only works on evil people, which Superman is not.  :P

Nope, Goku doesn't have his tail anymore so he can't turn into an Oozaru.  I think Goten still has his tail, but Goten != Goku.  Does Superman have laser vision?  Can Goku get a mirror and reflect that back at him?

Death's cool, he likes cats.  He also doesn't kill you, He only shows up when you're dead. :P

In the DC universe, Death is a personification, yet still a tangible being, just like in Marvel. He tried to kill Superman, but Superman just wouldn't quit. That's power.  :P

Goku could just use the Dragonballs to move planets.  Much less effort :)

The dragon balls only work once per year. Superman being able to move planets on his own is a useful battle attribute in the sense that he has strength (more strength than Goku  :P). Besides, what would Goku want to move a planet for, and where?

Anywho, you can't use dragon balls in a death battle.  :( (Only the characters' own powers)

I count 5 uses/year.  2 from the Earth balls (after Dende modified them), and then 3 from the Namek set.  But yes, no Dragonballs in a death battle...

Goku would want to move Earth to counteract global warming (I just stole the idea from Futurama).

The problem with Superman is that his only weakness is Kryptonite, but we already agreed that Goku wouldn't use it :(.  Has anybody tried to measure Superman's power level so that we can compare that to Goku's?

I know that there are 5 wishes, but they only work annually. Can't make too many wishes, or you'll release the evil dragons again.

Also, the creator of DBZ has stated that power levels are meaningless.  :P

Besides, they're limited to the power of the eternal dragon, and I'm certain that Superman is stronger than Shenron if Piccolo could kill Shenron. Thus, Shenron can't harm Superman anyway. Even if Shenron could give Superman CAPD, Superman would kill him before he did anything.

I've seen more footage of Goku than I have of Superman... I think I'm mostly rooting for him out of loyalty at this point. :)

Next, I found a few false points in that Goku article. First, Goku had to go Super Saiyan to lift 100 tons (shown in the canon manga), which Superman can easily do, and more. Next, Superman's heat vision doesn't exhaust him; he wasn't tired after destroying a Doomsday horde, only remorseful for having killed. Next, Superman is a lot stronger than that author is letting on. His heat vision isn't only enough to split the sea, but more than enough to split PLANETS with ease. Superman was actually trained in martial arts by Batman, Wonder Woman, Wildcat, and other great martial artists.

There are a lot more false points, but it would take A LOT of time to bring them all up. In short, read the article I provided, and you will see that the author of the "Why Goku Should Win" article picked the convenient tangential storylines in which a powered down Superman (to keep the plot interesting) is the main protagonist. The real Superman would beat Goku fair and square.

It wouldn't be fair since the GT version of Goku is considered "non-canon" by many people so you can't use the "real" Superman against him.  That would be cheating and Goku would win by disqualification.

Well like I said I'm only tangentially aware of both, but my impression is that you are using any representation of superman available as a basis even though those representations come from an extremely long time period and with different writers who didn't necessarily have exactly the same ideas about what superman could do. Then you're adding in the stipulation that his one consistent weakness wouldn't come into play and that goku would want to fight superman at his strongest "just becuase." If we're going to add in characterization I don't think superman would want to fight an innocent person to the death!

In any case I wasn't serious about giving superman CAPD with the dragon balls. ::)

Okay, how's about we only use Pre-Crisis (most powerful) Superman? The one dragging 12+ planets in that picture I put up earlier.

Plus, Goku would fight Superman at his strongest. Heck, he gave Frieza, an evil tyrant that destroyed Goku's HOME PLANET, enough energy to evacuate himself safely from an exploding planet.

Besides, using kryptonite is unfair. You're welcome to pose the option of Goku using kryptonite. I just said that it wasn't allowed because I assumed that any self-respecting Goku fan would rather have Goku win by his own merits than leave his victory open to question because he used a cheap tactic.  ;)

Once again, go ahead and allow Goku to use kryptonite, but is that really how you want such a battle to go?

I was operating under Death Battle rules, in which all characterization is intact, except for things like Batman's/Superman's "no killing" rule.

Try Dragonball Kai?  They cut out a LOT of the filler, but they only go through the end of Cell.

Oh, I saw DBZ Kai. They did remove a lot of filler. Only 100 episodes! However, DBZ abridged on youtube is even shorter (a few hours per season). Plus, it's funny, especially when they yell things like, "power levels are bulls***!"

thats Mugen or M.U.G.E.N. its a software that lets you make your own fighting game, but I am not sure how to use it.

You can add any character (using sprite models) into a 2d fighting game, you tube has lots of videos on it

If there was just a massive battle royale then I think Supes would be out early TBH.  He isn't invulnerable and I'd say enough other character would recognize that, gang up on him, and take him out.  I wouldn't put it past Wolverine to be left standing, and a lot of villains could easily take it.  I'd put my money on Batman though, I think he'd just find a way...
