Title: Breast development
Post by: Kristijna on September 17, 2018, 02:08:48 AM
Hello everyone!

I am new to this community so this is my first post, and I wanted to talk about breasts. ;D

I am at about 4 and a half months on HRT and am currently an AA cup. I was completely flat before. They haven't really grown for the last two months, and I'm really worried that this will be pretty much it. I know that might sound weird because I've only been on E for 4 1/2 months but according to statistics from my hospital (VU Amsterdam, Netherlands), overall breast growth in transwomen is very minimal (I'll post the article below).

Anyway, according to the article most breast growth appears in the first 6 months (which I'm almost at), and I've been waiting for a new growth spurt but it's not really coming. Though, I've never stopped feeling at least some growth pains (although very slight and some days completely nothing).
However, I noticed my breasts haven't stopped developing, as I recently hit Tanner stage IV with the mound on mound thing. They haven't grown in size however. When I look at pictures of the tanner stages there's still a lot of difference in size between stage IV and V, and according to my (cis)friends most of their growth appeared in the later phases of puberty.

I really don't wish for a lot when it comes to breasts, I think a B would suit me best but an A would be great as well, because my chest is not really big and I'm pretty skinny anyway. I at least hope for something that is good enough to not go for breast augmentation because I really do not want that, but if I would stay the size I am now that would be just unacceptable. Also women in my family are not very big breasted, my sister and mother both have B's, however from my fathers side women have about a C or D cup.

So I just wanted to ask when did your breasts started to get a major growth spurt, was it early on or later in the process? Is it normal to hit one of the later Tanner stages so early on and what does that mean for the growth in size?

Important to note though that the study was conducted after the patients were 1 year on hormones and breasts usually take longer to fully develop. Mostly 2 years, but sometimes even longer, at least that's what I understand from other transwomen.

Anyway thank you for your time to read this bookwork :P

Hi Kristijna

It's a very difficult thing to predict breast growth.  If you are young (teen or close to teen) you will probably have better results, and it also depends a lot on your body type:  in my experience on this forum (I'm an old hand, recently rejoined), people who are naturally bulky seem to get more growth.

My advice, is not to worry about what you get.  Cis women, in any event, take a few years for their breasts to grow, and progress can be gradual.  Meantime, use a padded push-up bra, like millions of cis women do, and think about implants some time in the future, as studies show them to be very safe for most people.

Good luck!
Julia

Hey there, I'm also at VUmc, have been on HRT for over two years now and not much has been growing. I actually was a subject in the study you linked to, but my breast growth has been somewhat disappointing, exactly like the study states. I believe in 2019, breast enlargement will also be covered by Dutch insurance. I would give it at least one or two years to grow themselves, before you decide on an operation.

Hi Kristijna,
It would be good to see scientific study on the efficacy of progesterone in the mix. Heresay and clickbait offers everything from no effect to miraculous cis woman results.

Also a good 2 years is needed to guage how much milk gland tissue is ever going to appear.

I personally found 12 months in 2016 turned firm fried eggs into bouncing b-cups.

2017 off HRT for 12 months and lost volume back to A cup. Back on HRT for new year 2018 and back to b-cups.

Great topic though - breasts are fascinating!

Also is your HRT up to full dose now(cis blood levels ?)

Wishing you a buxom future,

Hi Kristijna

A friend of mine said her HRT Doc said if she made it to a c sup she was a "superstar"...I now understand what he meant.

I am older so things are not supposed to work as well but after about 2.5 years I am a solid b cup...and as the cartoon says  "The, the, the that's all folks"  :D

I don't expect much if any more growth and what I noticed is that after I got to a certain "pointiness" they didn't grow out any further but began to fill out or round out may be better description.

Take care

Liz

Hi, Kristijna!

Welcome to Susan's Place.

My breasts started growing within a month, and had done most of their growing by six months.  However, they continue to grow.  The eyes may lie, but the hands dont: the growth is continuing, although slowly.  After 20 months, they are an A cup.

While growth is continuing, I don't expect to make it to a B.  I am not going to seek breast augmentation surgery.  For one thing, I had experienced noticeable growth, which makes me ineligible for funding: I'd have to pay my own way.  And I'd rather have small, real boobs than big fake ones.  No disrespect to those who do choose BA, but it is just not for me.

We had a good friend, a cis woman, who has a flatter chest than me.  So I'm not complaining.

It took about a year and a half for me and much of this was during periods of weight loss. There was initial growth followed by a leveling off and another growth period. I went from a 40B, a small B )as I had some gynecomastia prior to this in my early 20s) to a 38DD. Further weight loss took me back to a 38D but I believe I'm back again to that DD.

To me, this was actually a bit more growth than I wanted, but you don't get to choose these things from hormones alone. I had what seems to be all the size by the time I went on progesterone at about a year and a few months, that I believe gave me rounder breasts and matured my nipples and areolas.

After two years of HRT I've gone from a 38AA to a 34A-B, depending on brand.  Age (62-64) and genetics played a big part in this, I suspect.  I am going to try for Mammary feminization surgery, breast augmentation, and see if I can get a 34C to 36C.

I wear a 40A bra after 13 months HRT. If I go by the difference between chest and bust measurements, I am a small C cup (just under 4 inches) but I'm not spilling out of my A cup yet. Go figure? I am still going through growth spurts and definitely still having growth pains. If I do want a BA, I was told I would have to go 2 years on HRT because it usually takes at least that long for breast growth to reach maturity.

Hope this helps!

I'm right there with you. At 18 months I'm a full A/small B (40 band). I have 40A, 40B and 40C bras. A's tend to make me sore and I nowhere near fill out the C's. I'm hoping to avoid BA, but I'll wait until 3 years. My mother was a 40D and my sister is a 38DD (as best I can estimate).

As to early growth, I thought that I would be done at about 8 months. I seemed to progress through the Tanner stages about every two months. But at around a year I seemed to go back to Tanner 2 and then 3. At this point I'm done worrying about it. I'll get what I get. But I am trying to get on progesterone and hoping to get an orchiectomy soon. Both of them have anecdotally been linked to additional growth. (With my luck they both will kick in and wind up a 40DD (I'm actually hoping for a full 40C, as I don't want that much attention. I'm a bit of a wallflower).

I probably shouldn't be worrying so much about it... I can almost fit an A cup bra already (which would be enough for me to not go for BA), my breasts are at this stage really pointy, kind of cone shaped, which I heard is normal in the early stages. I think, if they would round out a bit I would fit a small A, but from what I understand the rounding out happens in the later stages. Then again 4 months is nothing compared to 2 years, so I just have to wait for 20 more months :P I also notice that they haven't stopped developing, just growing, so I guess they're just taking a break.
By the way I forgot to mention but I'm 19.

Anyway that you all for your replies

I developed 34B breasts after 2 years or so on HRT. I have been on estrogen for almost 9 years now with no further changes.

Keep in mind too that each bra manufacturer is different. A 40A cup in one brand can be a 40C size in another. For example, I bought a 40C bra and they sent me what looks like a 40DDD. I mean this bra would hold two small watermelons. I don't know why there can't be a standard.

Hard to predict, mine fluctuates.
Prior GRS pre-op I hit 85kg and I got a C cup. Not relatively tall about 1.65m. Meaning I am overweight so breast kinda went up a notch.
Just before GRS, I lost weight about 30kg and so did my boobies, shrink along and went to a small B. After GRS, weight drop to current 48kg but boobies went up to a normal B. So really hard to say. But I have been on hormones for like 18years so don't really expect and much drastic development anymore.

I've been on low dose HRT since April 30th 2018. I am 5'10" and was 275 when I started. I've lost some weight since. My mom took a pic of me today and the first thing I saw was boobs. I am not "out" to my  family, only a few friends. So, when I saw how prominant my moobs stood out I was like holy crap. I did not realize they were so noticable now. When I look at them without a shirt they look like moobs but they are definitely more noticable now. I think it must be because my belly has shrunk my breasts have not. I'm not sure if they got bigger but it definitely made me question my "plan" on being on hormones stealthily for awhile then coming out later on to family. I really need to make a decision on what I really want to do. I guess it's a case of "mileage may vary".

I'm about a year on hrt and I'd say I'm probably at an A cup right, or I'd like to say, a deflated B cup. Lol I had a bit there before hrt and really when I hit puberty at 12 I noticed breast growth from being overweight. I use push up bras and they're usually padded. It brings the little boobage I have up and closer together. Makes some outfits look better or at least to me.

For the last hour BOTH of my breasts are tingly and this has been intense.
I have had them "reacting" before, and maybe they do that too while you are sleeping.

I never have had both breasts going like this though.  The feeling is hard to describe.  It feels good.  No, they did not grow overnight!   :)

When I walked down the hall to make some coffee and my nipples were against my moving silky touch robe, the feelings were very nice.  I cannot describe it well, I am sorry.  What was unusual and a first for me was that not only did I have very pleasurable feelings in my breasts, my legs soon after got weaker, and feelings went through my arms, tummy, and thighs.  I started to make coffee but I just lost interest in that and went to the loveseat and curled up on it.  The nice feelings were rolling all through me.

I wanted to go to the store to pickup a new blouse I bought online but I feel like I have melted away.  My energy seems to have been zapped.  I just cannot think of any other way to describe it.  I do not feel bad, just sort of wiped out.  My breasts are still tingly, and I am still lying down.

This is amazing.  I hope this happens again, that is for sure.  This is going to be a memorable day off.

Chrissy

It's normal. That's the breast bud and over time it will reach the size of a donut. Normally you don't feel it because the fat covers it up but it will always be there.

@ForeverLacey:
My experience and results were quite similar what you described with your own breast development.

For me, after about 3 or 4 weeks of HRT, my breasts became very sore and I felt obvious lumps or breast buds forming under my nipples.   Also my nipples were erect and protruding much of the time and very noticeably showing through my shirts.

At 3 months the breast buds became much larger, a little larger than the size of a golf ball and there was obvious breast growth that was getting difficult to hide... again, my breasts were sore and delicate in the sense that if I bumped them when carrying heavy boxes or brushing them with my arms, they really were quite painful.

My nipples were erect most of the time and could be considered as lethal weapons as they were about to poke through my shirts and impale anyone in my path.

At the beginning of my 2nd year of HRT they were a B cup, and by the beginning of my 3rd year of HRT they became a C cup, and seemingly and hopefully will stop there.

I am presently at 3 3/4 years of HRT and wearing a 34C bra that is filled out nicely and my breast growth has seemed to stop, which is just fine with me.   I lead a very active lifestyle with running, jogging, gym, etc, so I really do not want any larger.

Thanks for sharing...
Hugs,
Danielle

Oh, and by the way Lacey, I really like your Avatar/Profile picture, you are very beautiful.

I just started my third week on the estrogen patch, and I still don't see any difference in any body development.
My breasts started to grow on their own about three years ago, and are now between an A and a B cup.  My nipples have been errecht and hard for almost the entire time, and do hurt once in a while.
But again, all that happened prior to HRT.
The left breasts and the left nipple is visibly larger than the right setup, but again, that was also the case prior to HRT.

I really wonder when I will see any visible changes to my body?
It is kind of frustrating, almost everybody reports changes because of HRT and here I sit with nothing!

The way I can see it from your reports, I am already there were some of you were at the beginning of their second year on HRT.  I hope that I have not to wait for almost two years for my breast development to catch up with what I have already.  I would be very happy with a nice Ccup.

What did you do to reduce your bandwidth?  I am currently 44, and plan to loose about 15 to 20 pounds, but that would not reduce my band width a lot.  But I am 6 ' tall and have an appropriately sized rib cage.  I don't think that dieting would bring the bandwidth down more than 2 inches.  It is very hard to find a decent bra with that band width but rather small cups!

It is not easy to become a woman!

lol Curious thread No Joke Danielle! Sometimes think we should be careful what we wish for, these things take time, was once told excited massaging (by an admiring male? >:-) ) helps breast growth but while 'out' am by no means 'full time"! And for all those wistful, indecisive girls "worried" 'bout growth I'd say "don't" have found it much easier to be upfront and appeal to a guy's latent sense of "gay" rather than risk overcoming a so-called "transphobia" . .

Cis women in general are not attracted to "breasts" or "girlish-guys" am (also?) thoroughly addicted to finding that middle ground with handsome men!

Two ideas on finding large band small cup bras.  Think Walmart and not VS.  Walmart has a huge plus size customer base. Walmart is competing with Target and Amazon for online sales, so don't forget that. Second idea is to shop for post mastectomy bras.

Maybe as your chest muscles atrophy the band sizes decreases that way also?
I do not see how your bones would get smaller, but some loss of muscle and fat both seem as ways to reduce band size.

I would think that guys that had big pectorals would see the most dramatic band size losses.
Then again, woman are sometimes advised to do upper body exercises to build up their pecs, so that their breasts lift up and stand out more, without increasing breast size.  But their pecs are typically not as developed as most guy's are.

Most of us would like narrower shoulders too but we do not seem to talk about that very much as compared to talking about our breasts.

Thanks for the Walmart online idea.  I shopped our local Walmart (if anyone here wants to find a translation for the term "unorganized and chaotic", come to our Walmart), but the amount and organization of the undergarment department is so overwhelming, and the visible bras have so gigantic cups (Latino women seem to have rather big boobs) that I don't feel like diving deeper into this section of the store.
Online should be a little more serene!

I have pretty well developed pecs, and try to keep them going, for the reason you mentioned, to keep the boobs up there and not on my knee caps!  But I don't see how pecs would influence the band width much, because their main protrusion is higher up on the bosom.
My shoulders don't bother me much, because all female size XL tops fit me without any problem.  Finding female clothing items seems to be easy for me, pants of the size L fit perfectly, and the XL tops go well with them.

Yes, that area is full of large cup sizes and it makes me wonder if women that fit in them well have back problems because of their breast size!

One tip to avoid all those bras is to look at just the sections where they have sized marked boxes, rather than the bras that are openly hanging.  Granted, that eliminates some variety.  With that said, I think that I have bought only one bra there.

They do have breast enhancers in boxes in some stores, if that sort of thing appeals to you.  Sometimes I might insert some and you notice the results, for sure.  But I used them to see what size my breasts may grow into someday.  I prefer to be out with just my breasts in my bra, because that is what I want for the rest of my life.  They are still growing.   :)

I bought some of those "checken cutlets" to fill the rather empty cups of bras that fit my bandwidth. I feel that they are pretty uncomfortable and make my boobs pretty sweaty (SW Florida tents to do that with body parts)
The funny thing with bra measurements is that a B cup of a bra with small ler bandwidth fits me pretty well, while a B cup for my bandwidth seems to be gigantic.
I am currently looking into the possibility to buy bras with a smaller bandwidth and have a seamstress making this bandwidth larger.  This way I can find bras that look cute (I love everything with lace - those bigger bras look like parts of a suit of armor) but still fit my large chest.

When I was a guy (or thought I was a guy), I always wanted to be big and strong and did everything to develop my body towards this goal, now I wish I would not have done that, and I could be that slinky, thin person again, which I used to be!  At least my shoulders are not very square!

I can relate.  A C cup, or some B cups of the next lower bandwidth are much better fitting than the C cup or B cup for my bandwidth.  The volume is just not there yet. I just use the band extender thingies.

It is awesome to see my breasts actually close to fill or fill the smaller cups though. When you touch them in the bra, you feel the fullness, not baggy half filled cups.  You see the fullness also. They are still the same size breasts of course but they feel more nicely encased and supported.

I never had this nice feeling of filling a bra cup.  I envy you!
Not only do I have that large bandwidth, but because of the size of my chest, my girls are sitting pretty far apart from each other, which makes the section between the individual cups also to short.  The extenders would work OK for the back part, but I might need a seamstress to insert as section of band between the individual cups.  I am a sucker for everything lace (if possible I would be dressed in lace from head to toe), and I almost drool over the nice lace bras one can find in the smaller bandwidth.  The larger bandwidth bras seem to be more like a piece of armor, than something of delicate lace material that is meant to dress up my girls!

I bet i still have an old sternum saw around (they are ideal for woodworking), and should use this to reduce the size of my rib cage (like in a DIY fashion on my work bench).

Hand sewing should be practical for many, as we aren't talking about many stitches for simple elastic extender.

My problem is that I am way more handy with welding all kinds of steel and swinging wrenches around automobiles than handling needles and yarn. I might be able to weld an extension to the underwire of a bra (I have a nice little wire welder) and weld some mesh material in between!  But sewing it?????????

Well perhaps an alterations shop can be of help.

Maybe if you used a bra extender thingie with a front clasping bra, that would help?

My breast growth started about a month after starting HRT and seems to have continued on off since, seems like everytime I'd think "Well that's it I guess" I'd have another growth spurt

I have a pair of well formed naturally grown C cups so I'm actually kinda hoping they're through growing now

Never thought I'd be saying that

I still remember the wonder and excitement from 10 years ago when I first joined Susan's and how goofy I was trying to learn this and that like how to measure for a bra and what underwears I like

It has been an adventure  :icon_chick:

I just looked on Amazon.  For the real nice lace front closure bras, on would need clip extenders, and they are not available.  And that leaves me with the dilemma that the cups of smaller bras are to close together for my chest.  I could get the band to fit with the extenders, but would still have no cups in the right position  to cover the boobs!

Being male is sure way easier!

Sounds like you need a seamstress to help you out.  Maybe one of the ladies you see or an alterations shop?  Also, consider trying other bras besides just the one decorative style you like the most.  Maybe you can have someone add some lace?

Good luck.  Also, review all of the bra threads that are posted here for advice.

Thanks for the advice.  One of the ladies is already looking into bra alteration or me.  I  have three bras that fit OK, I might jut have to be patient and wait until I get the DDD size breasts to fill the cups of bras that have the right bandwidth!

I hoping that you will get the style and fit you are looking for.

Today seems to be a day for me where I am enjoying lady comforts:  I enjoyed a lavender bath, I played around with my hair with hair adornments, and I am not dressed to go out or for visitors, just really comfy.  A relaxing day!

This is nice.  I have pretty much the opposite.  I must have pulled a muscle in my back, and am currently living on Tylenol.
I have to go out and buy some stuff, and decided to go out as a guy, because it is way less work to just through some shorts and a shirt on.
I really wonder if one has to have some kind of dysphoria to be really a trans person.  It does not bother me at all to go out as a guy, but it does not bother me to go out as a woman.  I don't know if I have any dysphoria at all?
Now that I know that I can find decent looking shoes, and with my fingernails longer, the hands don't look that super male anymore either.
My only dislike are my genitals, but I don't hate them or something like this, they are just in the way, and the testes hurt with the slightest touch.  But that does not cause any dysphoria, just discomfort.

Dietlind,

I do not want to get this thread away from breast development and possibly the bra issue you have, but I do want to pass along to you well wishes for the healing of your back and the reduction of your pain.

Plus, I do not know about your lack of dysphoria matter for going out as male or female.  Consider starting a thread somewhere.  But you might want to examine both gender identity and gender expression and perhaps that will give you an answer.

Depends on your weight and height.  Someone who is short for their weight should be able to diet and reduce their band size.  Someone who is tall may not.

I got some 40B non wired under T bras (M&S UK) ,nearly fill them after a year on HRT but still have some fillets to fill them properly. They also make good shock absorbers for when I bash them!!! Need to trim them down again , silicon is hard to trim and a good pair of scissors helps. They were supposed to be A cup to B but had flat backs so trimmed out a hollow. Can get away without them now for day to day ,boost for going out.

I am hat tall person (6').  I was able to reduce my band width from 44 to 42", and I might be able to reduce it another 2" or so.  But I doubt that I ever will get less than a 40 bandwidth!  The problem, is the absolute lack of standardization with bras.  My breast is large enough to nicely fill a B cup in a low 30 bandwidth, but a B cup in the over 40 bandwidth is gigantic.  I need two chicken cutlets in each side to fill the cup.  And A cups seem to be not available in the larger bandwidth.  I think it is assumed that larger chested females have larger boobs, too?

I googled "why do some women have huge breasts". I came across some UK article.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1350919/Why-ARE-womens-breasts-getting-bigger-The-answers-disturb-.html (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1350919/Why-ARE-womens-breasts-getting-bigger-The-answers-disturb-.html)

Back in the Fifties, the average woman wore a B-cup. Nowadays a lot of women are NOT having babies as early and as often/many. Also they are all talking birth control pills. Which causes them to go through more monthly cycles than previous generations.

In short this article might help us girls in coming up with some kind of solution to going past a B cup. But don't expect to go past a B cup, that seems to be the norm for most cis women without any outside influences.
Still very interesting article. I recommend people to read it.

I am going on 67 yo in March and have been on HTR for almost 2 years. I am at best a small B and doubt much more is going to happen, so my Doc occurs but she put me on a low dose of proges..to see if would help. She said some MTF did respond with some additional growth. It does get you a little moody for a while but it seems to level off. I have noticed some growth or maybe my eye site is getting worse.... I have purchased several bras (all the same size) but only one fits, the rest of them you could park a small car in each of the cups.

Hi, Christy!

Welcome to Susan's Place.  Thank you for jumping in!

Breast growth is very much a YMMV thing.  I am two years on HRT, and I would be happy if mine grew to a small B.  Heck, I was happy to go from an AA to an A.  I envy the girls who get Cs or Ds.  On the other hand, my little boobs are bigger than those of one of my cis women friends.

I've been on hormones (first self-medicating but now on prescription) for close to five years now and I'm still barely an A-cup. Started when I was 20. Meh...
I have measured my chest and my European size is 80A, which I guess is 36A in US size.

They say our breasts might be about one size less than those of your closest female relatives (sisters, mother).  If those don't have large breasts, your chance to them is very minimal.

Is there really anything long lasting (not temporary, as in the case of a few hours) in terms of breast development by using any of these gadgets on the market, such as those various suction devices and breast pumps?

Or massaging the breasts?

It just seems that nature needs to take its course but perhaps a few women do gain some size permanently by these techniques.

A member on a German Trans forum I am on, says that she got decent B sized cups from just pumping with vacuum pumps.  She tries to avoid all medications.  She pumps every day for quite some time.  It makes sense, because pumping increases the blood flow, and thus brings nutrition to the tissue, and at the same time stretches the skin on top of the underlying tissue.
I don't know if tose breasts are like our naturally grown breasts, with the developed mammary glands, nerve connections etc, or if they are just skin extension with fatty tissue underneath.  If the later is the case, one could produce such a "bump" at any place of ones body

I think it is a long stretch to take a stick of bamboo and create a fiber out of it that can be spun and woven, and still call it organic!

The only process that I know (from my bio-chemistry classes) that can be sued for this is the one pretty much the same which is used to make rayon (from aspen trees).  They have to make pulp out of it, and treat it with a million different chemicals to end up with a mass that can be spun!.  I don't believe there is much of any organic stuff left after that!

You must have pretty large girls after that!  How does the weight feel?

I am currently a B, or a A cup (depending and bandwidth), I do not feel any weight from them.  But I am also used to it, because they started to grow about 5 years ago.  But adding all of a sudden the weight of  800 cc's of silicone paste to my chest, would definitely feel different!  Both, my mother and my sister had D cups, and they always complained about the weight.  I hope that my breast growth will stop with a C cup, and you added all that stuff on top of it!

My left breast was most of the time almost a cup size larger than my right one.  It seems that now the right one tries to play catch up.  I looked a little closer last night and found that both of them have almost the same size now.

Is anybody of you experiencing this, too?  One breasts noticeable larger than the other, and all of a sudden the other plays catch up?

It might be that HRT is now giving my right girl a better chance to be a decent breast.
I have this difference in size for about wo years now (prior to ever hearing about HRT), and now estrogen seems to help out the right girl a little!
