Regrets

And if I died today
but somehow my soul persisted
What if anything would I regret
from life ceased and desisted?

Would I regret things I haven't done,
money I haven't made,
accomplishments I haven't won,
opportunities mislaid?

Would I regret being weak
when I wanted to be strong?
Would I regret failing to seek
what I deserved all along?

Would I regret the things I felt
but never took time to say?
Would I regret the chances not taken
to be my true self today?

Or will I regret one thing only:
that my life's day ends too fast
to stop and give my heartfelt thanks
for love future and present and past!

History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.
