Nathan.

Got to be at the hospital at 1:30. Having afternoon surgery is good as I was able to have breakfast and a cuppa, now i'm only allowed water until 11:30.

Weirdly i'm not as nervous as I was last night but i'm sure i'll be more nervous on the way there.

Good luck Nathan! I hope it goes well and that you're able to enjoy turkey tomorrow (assuming you're from the US).

Congrats! Hope everything goes well and that you make a speedy recovery. Just remember my favourite post-operative word: TRAMADOL!!! ;)

By the way... whenever I have any surgery I'm always first on the day's list for the day's procedures because I have a latex allergy. You see, the cleaners scrub down the theatres overnight and any patient with a latex allergy goes in first so they can have their operation safely without any risk of latex having been used on earlier patients.

If anyone reading this has a good reason for preferring an early morning op, it's worth a try. ;)

Congratulation Nathan.  Hopefully you will be able to have a cuppa soon.

Ah, I've heard Americans say "cuppa" as well; but it's okay, he can still enjoy a nice day tomorrow.  :)

I'm still in hospital, i'm not sure i'll be leaving today. The surgery itself went fine but I haven't had a good time of it, I've been sick a number of times and fainted a number of times too  :( I haven't been sick or fainted today but I still get shaky and light headed if I move, now my catheter is out having a wee is a mission.

The worst pain  i've experienced with my hysto is the trapped wind, I don't have any now but yesterday it was really painful in my shoulders, chest and stomach. The pain around the wound itself has been very small, last night and today I felt a bit of pulling pain on the right side of it.

I want to have a bit of a nap after lunch but the physio will be making me have a bit of a walk round the hospital.

All in all i'm feeling better today.

I get this too after surgery; in my case the problem is due to low blood pressure. :(

That trapped wind is a very common problem after surgery in that region, and it can come & go for several days. The best remedy I've been offered is peppermint water: the nurses took some peppermint oil and added it to hot water for us to drink; it worked a treat. Peppermint oil capsules (from Boots) do the same job.

Glad to hear that your op went well & you're feeling a bit better. :)

I had that after my abdominal surgery.  Try laying on your right side with your knees up towards your chest.  It will help relieve the wind.

Nathan.

Thank you for the advice  :)

Mum came at about 5 today, she made a cake for the nurses, she did the same when I had my top surgery  She brought me some donuts and my shampoo and shower gel that I forgot to pack. After dinner I had a shower, I smell better now :)

We had a word with the nurse and she thinks I will be fine to leave at about 10am tomorrow, it will be nice to get a good night sleep without being distracted by nurses.
