Spoke with my surgeon via email today and she gave me the option of having my cervix removed with my hysto/oopho next week. That means no more awkward examinations down there...ever again. I told her to take it all out. Ever last kibble n' bit GONE. I then asked her if there are any complications that can arise from having the cervix removed as well. She's busy so probably won't get to discuss it until I get to the Hospital.

That being said, have any of the guys here who have had a total hysto also opted to have the cervix removed? If so did you experience any complications due to that decision?

Removal of the cervix increases the risk of prolapse.  There is also said to be increased chance of vaginal dryness and decreased pleasure from orgasm, but I think that varies from individual to individual.

I'm having everything (uterus, tubes, ovary, cervix) removed...so what would be left to prolapse?

I don't have intercourse performed on me so the dryness isn't an issue.

The internal organs surrounding the area can prolapse into the cavity where the reproductive organs were.  Dryness isn't just about sex, it's about overall health of the vaginal area.

Ok, been reading up a little about that and it isn't directly related to removal of the cervix. Vaginal prolapse can be caused by childbirth, menopause, or a hysterectomy. That would put every transman who has been on T long enough to go through menopause or had a regular hysto at risk.

My cervix was already prolapsing and I was glad to have it removed.  I had no complications having it done.  I wasn't using the front hole anyway, but I've read that T can cause dryness/thinness and irritation during PIV sex, not the hysto.

Simon,  I hope you have a best success with hysterectomy.  I know you are looking to having those parts gone.  I wish I was at that point so I could have mine right now.  When I do have mine, I want everything removed, so no need for exam down there.
I don't see how I could be living completely as a guy and having to go into a GYN's office for such an exam, that would be most embarrassing thing to do.  Prolapse is problem for many women, many get after child birth.  My understanding from being around women in my family is that your muscle tone in pelvic area has alot to do with getting prolapse.  I am in good physical shape and plan on keeping up my exercise program so I hope to avoid the prolapse program all together.  Let us know how everything goes for you.

I had my cervix removed when I had my full hysto. I did experience complications - quite a big haematoma - but I wouldn't really say that was directly related to having the cervix removed, it could just as easily have happened if I hadn't.

I would point out that orgasms are slightly different now. Some are more intense, others are less intense. They vary more. T also changed my orgasms quite drastically, so it could just be my body adjusting the the hormone changes again, who knows? Hysterectomy affected me in more ways that I realised before the op. I do know that I can no longer stop my pee stream if I go when I really need to/stream is strong. I've only really healed properly now so will start doing pelvic floor exercises to strengthen the muscles there, hopefully this will decrease chance of prolapse and incontinence in the future and possibly lead to even better orgasms???
