I've been thinking about what I'd call myself if I was male since I was 12, and I think I have one that I am going to stick with.
I used to go by Vincent (though only one person would actually call me that) since Van Gogh is my favorite artist, but I think first names should be shorter than or equal to the number of characters in last names and Vincent is one character too long with both my maiden and married name.
I was strongly considering Sean since my first name now beings with an "S", but I know too many Sean's; things would just get way too confusing. I wanted a Narragansett middle name, since I am part Narragansett but the name would have been too long and I probably wouldn't be pronouncing it correctly (I was thinking of going with Miantonomoh, who was a sachem during Colonial times who got killed with a tomahawk by the Mohegans).
So, I think Henry David is going to be my new name. It's the right amount of characters and I have great respect for Henry David Thoreau-I usually carry around a worn and beaten up copy of Walden and Civil Disobedience with yellowed pages and leaves stuck in it, I think of him whenever I go hiking or sit in the public gardens, and I like the way the name sounds. It seems to fit me. The more I think about it, the more I like it.
I think as soon as I get this husband thing taken care of, I am going to start trying to transition and reintroduce myself to my friends, so I am glad I got a name picked out.
