You are welcome to apply for a scholarship.  Many of the vendors DO support the trans community by providing money for scholarships to the event.

If you'd like to show up at either 8:30am Friday or Saturday or both, we can put you to work as a volunteer and give you free admission into any of the workshops you would like to attend.  If your financial situation is an impediment, sent us an email.  We will try to help.  workshops@firstevent.us

So it looks to me if I wanted to go just 1 day, say Saturday, for the purposes of socializing with other people I still have to pay $40 to get in? Or is it possible to show up and just walk around? It's not like i need to get anything done, but I figure it's a safe venue and an opportunity to connect with the community and someone like me to come out of hiding :)

If  you wanted to go for one day, then yes you could pay the $40 or if you are short on cash, volunteer and get in for free.  I recommend the day of wellness and beauty on Thursday which is a real bargain for all the free spa treatments you can sign up for.  However as far as workshops -- Friday usually has more MTF programming and Saturday usually has more FTM programming, but there is a bit for everyone on each day.
