I was going to make the "yes" options say "yes/sometimes" but I figured it was implied. I'm sure even cis dudes don't stp 100% of the time. And the "No but I would like to" option could've been clearer, I meant it like, "No but I am planning on it." I'd wager most of us wish we could, but I put that option for the folks who are waiting for the confidence/money/planets aligning just right to finally try it out.

As for the ladies, many of you still have the ease of choosing between one or the other without needing special equipment. So, this poll is for the guys, hence it being in the FTM Gear forum. But I always appreciate hearing about your experiences with men's bathrooms and etiquette.

I used a urinal for the first time today. The bathroom was empty and the urinal had a divider between it otherwise I don't think I'd have tried. The pstyle isn't subtle even though I know other dudes supposedly don't peek. I really doubt I'd ever use it at a urinal without dividers or in a busy bathroom but having that option was cool today. And stp in stalls is a breeze too. The pstyle has seriously improved the quality of my life since getting it.. I don't have to worry about going to public bathrooms anymore.

Yeah the ladies are funny, but I hope they aren't actually voting-- kind of ruins the sample. :)
I didn't vote; Accurate results are important ^^

I think most guys do, actually, unless they are miserably sick and cannot stand properly. With a built in STP device, it is just more efficient for guys. On the other end that spectrum, I do know a small number of cis-guys that that don't for whatever reason. It is usually an all the time or none of the time things except with a few oddballs (like me! But I don't count as a guy .___.)

EDIT: Haha, I made a punny

Lots of guys are paranoid that somebody might peek, even with dividers, so being paranoid falls under common etiquette >.> Still, having the privacy in a public place to try that out is pretty cool! It'll help you perfect your skill for when you don't have that privacy :D

If you google it, you might find it, but there are guys who sit to pee.

i voted yes. I have a combination of "gear" that works for me which i thought i would share:

Mr Fenis + packing underwear (tranzwear etc) + balls from a limpy packer.

it works like this - balls tuck into the pouch in the underwear, mr fenis then slots through the opening so the shaft sits over the balls giving a good packing shape, and the sort of recepticle end is folded back against upper thigh.

to urinate you release the shaft, then slip hand down unfold the recepticle end and hold against you. i have been determined with this method and regularly use urinals ranging from at the office to busy football stadium trough.

sorry if thats a rubbish explanation, just a way ive managed that seems to work..

I voted yes. STPing was something I HAD to learn how to do, my urge was just too great. For years I made my own, then I started getting DJ's which were much better than the ones I made, although that was great fun for a while.

It was NOT easy, I pissed on myself plenty, and it literally took me years to master!

Now that I am confident at it, I don't leave home without it! I am an outdoors boy, so it's made a huge difference in how much fun I have out in the woods and so on.

It's so much fun and it just makes things so much easier. I can use a men's if I am having a good passing day, or just duck behind a random tree.

I can't imagine life without STPing, it would just kill me (not to be dramatic!). I highly encourage everyone that wants to try and get the hang of it--it really does change your life!!

This is really cool info, thanks. To know that you worked on it that long. Of course, one might think I did, since I did try this as a child. Of course, I didn't know what the equipment was exactly. I have heard people say that the pstyle helped kind of get the idea across to people who were basically clueless. Might describe me. It is hard to pack anywhere. Hiking it would go easily enough in a day pack.

I do have a device, but I don't know where it is. I moved and it's packed somewhere. I still have to get used to it and stuff. I'm lazy when it comes to training myself to use it.

Yep, I switched from medicine spoon method to the peecock about 6 months ago and love it. I sit when I'm at home sometimes though.

CursedFireDean

I use a medicine spoon at home, and it works quite well for me if I'm just in underwear, but I have trouble angling it down through a fly in some of my pants :/

I'm just starting to use an STP in public. I'm still sometimes kind of iffy with it, I always use a stall and sometimes I have a bit of difficulty starting, but I find it really helps with the dysphoria. I'm always ridiculously nervous going into the male bathroom at school, because it's quite likely I'll meet someone I know, who doesn't know I'm trans. However, in public, I'm a lot more confident.

CursedFire, I have the same problem with getting the end of the medicine low enough to get the urine to flow out.  Either the zipper doesn't go down far enough or my urethra opening is far down between my legs.  I would like to know if other guys have this problem and how they have been able to make medicine spoon type STP work for them.

septuagenarianTurist, I have the same  issue with confidences, when I have good confidence that there is very low chance of someone seeing me that knows me.  At school I normally use the men's, except in a few building that have single person unisex restroom.  My university is large and I go to a building where there is little chance of seeing anyone I know.  I am still pre-t and have to change tampons a couple of days of month in the men's room too.

Could you put a piece of aquarium tubing at the end of it? (if I am understanding the problem correctly...)

Jay, The problem is not so much the length, but getting the opening low enough for good flow and so urine doesn't collect in medicine spoon tube.

Unbutton AND unzip your pants. Or if you don't feel comfortable doing that, sag your pants a little before you head to the mens room.

I'll try sagging them a little to see if that works- I only need to get it a little lower.

I'd like to use a STP but I don't own one.

I can't figure out how to ask my parents for a packer so a STP-Packer is out of the range for now; not that I've decided on one though. I'll probably buy myself a PStyle but I can't use a urinal with it.

Ryanronald's method is interesting.

I'm stealth to my neighbors because they don't seem like they'd be very accepting, and with them popping in from time to time I've developed a habit of putting the toilet paper in the garbage instead of the toilet. So it looks like a regular guy was in there instead of the dickless fellow who actually frequents the place.

We are a if-it's-yellow-let-it-mellow household, of course. This probably doesn't make sense without that detail.

6 1/2 years ago, when I began transition, I thought I couldn't possibly go without having/using an STP. I bought the PPP from DJ's within my first month of trying to pass, and spent about a month thereafter pissing all over myself with it. A medicine spoon is a terrible receptacle, in my opinion; however, in 2006, there were about 3 options available for STPs, the best of which was the PPP. I gave up after a date during which I pissed down my pants leg, and never turned back. In 6 1/2 years of going into public restroom stalls and squatting over toilets to pee, I have never once had anyone say a word to me about it, even prior to my being on T.

That said, I would like to have the option of standing to pee, as I have encountered a few restrooms in that time that have only urinals, as well as countless restrooms in which I had to wait longer than I'd like to use a stall. I'm looking into various options, but it sounds like the Peecock would be awesome... if only I had $150 to drop on it. In the meantime, is the general consensus that the pStyle is the most effective, cheap STP on the market?

Wouldn't it just look like you blown your nose and chucked it in or something? I'd think of that before, "omg! There's pee and toilet paper in the loo, he can't have a penis!"

Yeah, Luc: I would definitely recommend the pStyle at least as a starting point. It's $12 and absolutely fail-proof. I haven't leaked once with it even while sleepy or drunk and I use it 95% of the time, even at home. The downside is that it's incredibly unwieldy and hard to conceal in clothing, even in cargo pockets in my experience. But like I said, it's a great way to get the hang of STPing.

Also I don't mind letting the yellow mellow but not if there's TP mixed in. I get paranoid of extra splash back or something. Another good thing about the pStyle (and medicine spoons etc) is that you don't need toilet paper.
