Hi all!

Just thought I'd share; I got the letter from my insurance company today approving coverage of top surgery! :-D

Weird that they put a time limit on it (I work with medical stuff and insurances all day at work and I've never come across that).  They wrote the letter on the 8th so it says it has to be done between 2/8/13 and 4/8/13.  I was initially looking at May so now I just need to re-arrange stuff at work to do it earlier; I'm looking at the end of March.  I'm calling tomorrow to hopefully set a date.  I'm so excited and can't believe this is actually happening! :)

Congratulations! You are getting your surgery with Dr. Rockmore, right? My insurance also covered my surgery with him and put a time limit on my approval as well but my surgery was schedule way before the approval ran out. Best of luck with everything! Dr. Rockmore is a great doctor and his staff is amazing. The staff at St. Peter's is also amazing and accommodating. Just beware they will have you pee in a cup to test for pregnancy. When they asked for my urine sample they just kept apologizing because of being trans but it didn't matter to me anyway!

Congratulations! :)

Its funny, because when I read that you have to have it between 2/8/13 and 4/8/13, I thought "Thats ridiculous that theyve only given him 2 days!!". But then I remembered, the US and UK way of writing dates is different :p

Yeah we consider switching to the way the rest of the world does, but that would make too much sense, right?

Haha, Make_It_Good; that's too funny.  2 months is short enough, 2 days would be CRAZY LOL

By the way--March 20th...a month from today!  Can't wait! :-D

Just wondering what kind of health insurance you have? Also, what are the requirments you need for him to do the surgery? did you need a letter from a therapist or anything?

I have CDPHP (Capital District Physician Health Plan) which is specific for the Capital Region here in NY.  They actually just changed the requirements back in September.  For Top Surgery I just needed a letter from my therapist.  For Bottom Surgery I believe it's a letter, a  year on T, a couple of sessions with a Psychiatrist (if your therapist isn't an MD), urological exam and a I can't remember what else.
