It was a very strange day yesterday.  (Friday, Nov 25th, 2005)  :)

Winter is well underway here.  We had a big snow storm Thursday, and Friday, and it's still snowing now.  So yesterday the temperature was -15 and it was about 7:00 PM and I was out on the back deck clearing the snow.  The snow squall suddenly stopped and the stars popped out in the black sky.  It was quite beautiful, and there was an erie light everywhere.

I stopped shovelling and looked around at all the fields and woodlands blanketed in fresh white snow, and thought that all of the errors and mistakes that have gone before are now all covered, snugly out of site, in a blanket of snow, where they will slowly fade from memory and we will wake in the spring with a fresh start on life.

Kinda weird...

It was really getting cold, the wind picked up, and the snow clouds rolled in again and the lights went out.  Shoveling a little faster, I worked my way around to the front of the house, when I heard this pitiful little cry.  At first I thought it was a Martin or a Fisher, we have lots of those here.  But I knew that didn't make that kind of noise.  Then I heard it again, even louder.  I got to the front walkway leading to the front door and there sitting on the window sill was the cutest little kitten I had ever seen.  She looked to be about a year old, very slight, and slim, and as soon as she saw me she was at my legs crying her little heart out.  I picked her up and she was shivering so bad, that I took her into the house to have a look at her.  She was so cold...

Gillian and I examined her all over, and she seemed to in good health.  She had a nice coat, and no sign of fleas.  Her fur was very thin and fine so we suspected that she must be a house cat otherwise she would have her winter fur if she was a barn cat.  So we fed her, and she settled right in with us.  We'll call her Cinders for now.  :)

The strange thing is, we don't know how she got to our house.  We are very remote, no one near us at all.  It's a puzzle.

P.S. I'll post some pictures later

Aww, that's great. That cat sure went to the right place for love and care.

I got my cat off the streets of Halifax 12 years ago and she's the best cat I've ever met.

Maybe someone knows how caring you and Gillian are and couldn't look after the cat anymore so left it on your doorstep.

-15 is that farenheit or celcius?  :o Either way you surely don't need SRS up there you could just sit your bum down and freeze of the unwanted bit I would think!!!

Ouch! I hadn't thought of that. There's an egg slice comment here that I could make but I think it's probably better to let it pass. LOL

Stephanie,

It's a rare gift when you are given a vison like this.  And it is a vision because it was a moment of clarity.

If I may be so bold, perhaps why the scene struck you as it did is because of your new life.  Everything that held you back from being the person you truly are lies buried under the blanket of snow.  Not gone but now lies buried in the past - slowly being forgotten.  Today, you have you own personal Spring - you are physically, emotionally and now legally Stephanie Craxford.

We acquired our latest cat in a similar way.  She just showed up on our doorstep starving to death.  We named her Tag-a-long because she would always tag along with my son.

Make sure you get her spayed.  We didn't get Tag done quite in time, and ended up with a litter of kittens.

When it gets down to -15, it doesn't matter if it's F or C - It's COLD!  :icon_exclaim:  Being on the other side of Ontario, I have been watching the lake effect to see if it was going to drift my way.

Great Steph! I can't describe how much my life is easier by my cat. He is always willing to listen me without critic. Also we play when I'm sad so problems just disappear for a moment  :D

Always had pets and I noticed most often my friends that have pets are more
sentimental than others. Also pets force u to organize time better and live healthier...less TV,less flurry....

Salute from me :D and my cat Abdula<miay>

My two cats are my best buds. I got my first through a adoption place that saves animals from being youthenized (hope I spelled that one right). My friends named him Buffett,Yes I'm a parrot head.
My second cat just walked into my store, jumped up on my lap and went to sleep. we named it Oliver for Oliver Twist, but found out from the vet that I had to change the name to Olivia. And before I get razzed about not knowing the sex of kittens. I was not the only one who got it wrong the other vet working there said it was a boy to.

Just guessing here but I figure graduated 300 out of a class of 250. Don't leave the cats with that vet. ;D The picture is just adorable. I love cats! They are precious!

telling the sex of young kittens can be tricky at times. one of our cats had kittens and my youngest daughter who was in grade school at the time wanted to keep one of them.  It was marked like a siamese but had long hair.  We all thought it to be female so the daughter named it Bianca or binky for short.

All was fine with Bianca and we made an appointment to have her spayed.  The day before the operation my daughter came to me crying and said something was wrong with Bianca ..... she had these bumps growing on her butt ..... we had to call the vet and change the spay to nuetering......

Is it true that dogs have owners and cats have staff. ;D

QuoteIs it true that dogs have owners and cats have staff.

I used to think that, but now I know that cats have captors.

Eddie Izzard says that pets lower your blood pressure. Dogs, you pet them, it calms you down. Cats, when you're sleeping, they drain all the blood from your body and sell it to a blood bank.

(I love my cat, by the way. :))

And Rachel is now 2 1/2 quarts low while Zoe is about $200 closer to escaping to the Bahamas.  (not quite sure where she is going to get her routine salmon treats and cup of milk... but i'm sure there will be someone down there willing to do that for her...) :D

Yes cats have staff. I have been on staff for more years than I can remember. Currently I am on vacation as I own a dog who chases cats(But doesn't know what to do with them once  he catches one other than bark at em).

There's something adorable about a cat's unrelenting self-interest, isn't there?

Sorry Dennis,

I've never really seen that I'm more a dog person really. I've also avoided the cat jokes as I suspected this was more a cat place than dog.

Good choice me thinks ::).
