Did you remember to remove the weight of the jar?... and cap?
The scale is used to count electronic parts that are much smaller than jelly beans, so the accuracy is spot on. The scale was zeroed with a ziploc bag on it, given forty jelly beans as a sample to establish weight, then the rest of the beans were poured into the bag. The jar and cap weren't involved in the weighing and counting.
