Hey guys,

I know it's a long way off, due to financial reasons, but I like to have a plan so I've something concrete to work towards. I've decided that I want a hysterectomy even before I get top surgery (as crazy as it sounds, having "girl" bits [ovaries, ewww...] causes more dysphoria to me than my chest, even though I can't bind anymore).

But even if it meant saving thousands, there's no way I want to go to a surgeon who has no experience with transguys, who might say some insensitive comment. I'm a lot tougher than I used to be, but if my surgeon/staff were inconsiderate to me, it'd hurt me a lot (because, in my mind, then it's more "official" since they're in the medical field).

I'm in the U.S.A. but would still consider going to a surgeon in a different country, as long as they're native English-speakers.

So, for those who are post-op hysto-wise or who've found a trans-friendly surgeon, please post their name, location, and website (if they have one). Feel free to share your experience with them, too, and any other pertinent info.

I think you will find more and more doctors are familiar with transfolks and are sensitive to their needs.

However, that being said ... my trans doctor ... the one who proscribes me the T and checks my levels is a obgyn ... I am having my hysto this Friday with her.  Her staff has always treated me with the up most respect.  It's Dr. Deb Thorp and she is in Minneapolis, MN.

I had mine with a surgeon at NIH in Maryland but they're a research hospital so that's not going to help you.

There is Dr. McGinn who is trans herself so there would be no question about her having the best trans related care. Her site: http://www.drchristinemcginn.com/.

I went to Dr. Amy Benjamin-Pratt at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She and all the staff were amazing. Except for the receptionist doing a double take when she saw what surgery i was having, it seemed like guys walk in there everyday and get hysterectomies. I had a great experience (and they gave me lots of pudding!)
I'd definitely reccomend her.

I rarely have anything good to say about doctors (so many bad experiences), but this woman was absolutely amazing. Office staff was OK...but Dr. Hsiao was honestly one of the best doctors I have ever encountered for anything. I was 100% impressed with her.

I don't have a\the money for a hyster and will most likely have top surgery first when I get the money.  Makes me feel good to hear about all the trans friendly surgeons out there as I am 23 and know some girls have problems finding a dr to get their tubes tried at my age.  Robert Scott great to hear you have found a good dr for your hyster, what incision are you getting?  I want the minimum scarring can have when I get mine.  Just writing this makes be wish I could get mine this week and be done with those shark week every month.

I am having the DaVinci Hysto done .. google it and you can get tons of information.  More or less the doctor operates a robotic arm to preform the incision ... there is going to be three/four small incisions which I think look less like hysto scars than a laposcopy one ... the recovery time is much quicker ... some guys have gone back to work in three days ... in fact I can be release back to work as soon as I stop taking the pain killers - which can be 1-3 days.

Dr. Thorp has been doing them for years.  I have several friends who have had it done with her as far back as six years.  Tomorrow I go in .. I am super excited & nervous.

Oh, I wanted to add ... my insurance doesn't cover srs .. so Dr. Thorp wrote an appeal letter and got my surgery covered by the insurance company.  Since, she has lots of trans folks who see her and runs a transgender clinic she is very aware of insurance bias and works with folks.

I belive Dr. Zoe Rodriguez in New York, NY does hystos.  I follow another transguy who had his done by her and in his own words he said ". Very FTM friendly, very personable, and a caring woman. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"

I went to Dr. Danilyants in Maryland. She also works out of an office in Virginia.

I went because I had a medical problem, but she removed the ovaries which hadn't seemed to be the cause of it, and took out everything from there to the cervix. When I went in for my visit, she had told me that she worked with other trans* men before and had done surgery on them as part of transition. Her staff even offered me a separate room to wait in so I wouldn't feel out of place among their typical patients, and I believe one of the offices has a separate door you can enter and everything.

All in all, I believe I got an incorrect pronoun once or twice on the two visits I went there, but I had seen several people each time including the Dr (who was great about everything!) the nurse/assistants, and the receptionist. I am very happy with how things went and my insurance covered the procedure.
