Ok,  so, following the big NHS reshuffle,  the gender dysphoria guidance has been renewed.  A few days ago this document was created....

http://www.cliniq.org.uk/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/nhsenglandinterimgenderprotocolcpag12072013.pdf

It defines policy.

Referral to gender clinic is now direct from GP rather than psychiatrist.
Hair removal is now funded for mtf
You can now start on hormones before having been full time for at least 3 months!

All good changes.

Akira :-)

Just getting this straight... Does this mean RLE is no longer required to start on HRT?

As I'm in the UK this is amazing news! Now we won't hopefully be treated as insane lol.

I'm wondering if this means anything for Wales, since the document specifies England.

Actually that's a good point, I'm also in Wales.

It's the English one,  based on the Scottish one. I *think* Wales share the English one,  but I am not sure.

For rle the guidance is that it is required before grs (well of course it would be)  but not hormones. It is after hormones in the new flow diagram.

yeah, for srs it makes perfect sense, but for hormones... that is inhuman.
I'm not a crossdresser. I have nothing against people who are, but I am not. I don't think it is appropriate in a progressive society that a person be required to prove they can be a cross dresser before they are 'allowed' to be transgender.
unless it doesn't mean that.... but then it needs to be noted that there are plenty of women who like to go to the pub with the lads, drink beers, smoke, play darts, play video games, like motorsports etc.  in actuality, I am not really that effeminate in my day to day gender expression.
ehm...

thanks for linking the information Akira :)

it is really good that they are bringing out these new guidelines.
I have my referral this Thursday so I will find out what the deal is.

I'm so jelly, here in the states hardcore conservatives would never let that fly  >:(
One day they'll understand

Yeah I think that policy is daft.

"You must prove your something you're not before we can help you become what you are."

As a transgender MtF I would not cross dress pre transitition.
