Would have to be Kane from the C&C series for me and I think that's because of how the C&C series was written. There were no good or bad guys. Kane had many traits of the bad guy but he knew what was coming and what had to be done, he protected the poor and suffering and in the end saved humanity from Tiberium and the alien Scrin and delivered on his promise to "ascend" his followers.

C&C gets a lot of flak for being cheesy and campy but I still feel the story telling was way ahead of it's time and I haven't come across another game that made me feel like the "evil bad guys" really were the good guys despite being a harsh and brutal dictatorship =P
"Shows you the kind of world we live in. Love is illegal - but not hate. That you can do anywhere, anytime, to anybody. But if you want a little warmth, a little tenderness, a shoulder to cry on, a smile to cuddle up with, you have to hide in dark corners, like a criminal." - Lou Jacobi

I think I have an obligation to show up here and mention who my favorite character is.

SHODAN

Duh. :))

Far too many characters that I like for me to choose just one.  As a kid, though, I can say that my favorite character was Luigi, and as a teen it was Solid Snake.

i think it's a close tie between these three. i see a bit of myself in them all. but they are also bad as a$$

Current Favorite Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite

and

there's also  a whole video about them creating her...

The game has a great story line along with a mind blowing ending. It helps if you played the first two bioshock's but it's robust enough to play alone.

That's easy. Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite and Ellie from The Last of Us. They couldnt be any more different than each other but they are both such strong female protagonists and they steal the show from the characters you play as.

I didn't like what they did to her in the second half of the game. I get it in terms of character progresion, but I preferred the younger, innocent look she had in first half. I felt like I could relate to her more.

Commander Shepard, Darth Revan, the Gray Warden etc etc.... I am such a bio ware fan girl. Except for DA 2,  seriously screw that game.

My city elf in the first Dragon Age.

She was the ultimate good/heroic character.

In the end she sacrificed herself to save everyone. I cried as the conclusion scene ran and they had her funeral, and built a monument in her honor. It was the most powerful and moving ending to a game I've ever played. I guess I really formed an emotional bond to that character. Ending the game that way made me so depressed, but I couldn't have done it any other way. That's who she was.

:'(

One of my favorite video game characters is Francis York Morgan from Deadly Premonition. He's an insane and eccentric FBI agent who's really darn good at solving bizarre crimes.

I loved everything about this game ^_^

One of the things that made me the angriest about DA2 was that they threw about 90% of my epilogue in the trash.  Seeing as how DA and ME were both billing on the idea that your story carries over from game to game, the fact that MY DA:O ending says

1) The Chantries control over the Mages is revoked, allowing the mages to separate from the Templars
and
2) My Gray Warden and Leliana stayed a couple, spending the rest of their lives adventuring together

That kind of makes the ENTIRE story of DA2 impossible (not that it was terribad levels of shoddy writing and lazyness anyways, but that just made it worse).

My last two Skyrim characters were both neither good or bad, but moral shades of grey. The one in my avatar was a very dark grey, but would've refused to hurt any children. The other one wanted to help people, but was in conflict with his greedy side.

They were my favorite characters, so far, because i imagined everything about them myself and played them like that.
