If only I had a DeLorean.  ::)
Or rather a ride in the TARDIS, I presume.

QuoteUnfortunately, I gave up before I even thought of going online. I'm still kicking myself for that one but oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.
Yep - I think EVERYONE here knows that feeling. I certainly do even though 23 was only 7 years after 16 when I really wanted that info as well. But drag queens and other "entertainers" - total turnoff.

QuoteAside from calling myself Amelia Pond, the main reason I choose to call myself the girl who waited is because I think it is a very good metaphor for describing my gender identity.
Of course. Double meaning :) - I like that really - because basically this is what most or all of us are - girls (or boys) that waited - waited for the time that all other girls became young women. And waited and waited...

Out of curiousity - did Amelie Pond have an influence of your choice of real life name? Or is that a neat coincidence?

Well I would but the TARDIS can't get to me where the Weeping Angels sent Rory and me so the best I could hope for is a DeLorean.  ;)

Besides, one of my friends got me stuck thinking about Back to the Future the other day.  :icon_shakefist:

Very true, though I think most people just see the Doctor Who connection with my name. ;)

Yes it did. I've actually had three legal name changes as an adult and all have been to names of sci-fi characters, although the first two changes were both male names. My first name is after Amelia/Amy Pond and my middle is after Rose Tyler. ;)

I never "came out" - didn't have to - everybody knew.

At 13 (1962) I started 'playing with hormone and started living part time at 14. At 15 a shrink was going to institutionalize me but I dodged the bullet and at 16 (1966) I was diagnosed Type VI by Dr. Benjamin. At 17 (1968) I officially started hormones but there was no 'legal' way to officially transition without SRS. That came in 1974 at the age of 24.

Geez that was a LONG time ago  ::)

I've known I was a girl since I was five. That said I denied it and repressed it until 35. Four months ago I came out to myself, my wife, her family and my friends. I started HRT almost four weeks ago.

I do wish I had been more honest with myself and started earlier in my life BUT I would have missed out on my son if I had.

It's just in the last few months I came out to friends + work, but I've been on hormones since the middle of last year, so 30/31.

Kaylee - how did you manage to get HRT that soon, or did you DIY?

But I am currently under medical supervision

I came out when I was 22, and was able to start hormones through informed consent and bypass the standard ~3 months of councilling. By this point I was quite sure I needed to transition and I wanted to start hormones asap. I'm 24 now, it's almost exactally 2 years after I initially started to come out. And while I'm quite passable now, I'm still in transition, I still need to get my laser done (money and planning issues FML, though most people don't know cause I have good makeup skills, and I'm currently stealth to my roomies) And I have the first part of my approval for SRS though I still could be waiting quite a while before I can actually get the surgery done. It's covered by my province here, ideally I'll win the lottery or something and be able to get it done in Thailand, though I'm not sure how realistic it is to hope for that.

I started when I was 39, but I had a set back, now I'm starting again at 45 and this time I'm, going all the way through.  :) Even though I am a non-op transsexual, just one thing that is keeping me back from legally changing my name and that is that I am not yet a legal citizen of the US, and once I get that I'll be legally changing my name. Unless someone knows more than I do. Please advice . . .

I was a little over 41 when I chose my name (January 2011) and started HRT (June 2011). I turned 42 shortly before I went full time (September 2011).

My legal transition started in November 2012 when I filed the court petition, and my legal name & gender change were granted in January 2013.

I started taking birth control pills in 1985 (in my early 20's). Name change legalities, driving license etc all changed in 2003 - 2004. It's now 2013 and I'm still not done yet. So it's ongoing!

You kept taking the birth control pills for all the time?

Funny how I skipped this thread for the longest time because I thought that it didn't apply to me. Whoops! Now it does.

I'm starting my transition at 51.

I started E and went full time at age 43.  Better late than never, right?

Started 'socially transitioning' when I was 18, started T when I was 19, approaching 20. I'm 21 now, a year and a half on T.

No, only as and when I could get them. It was the 1980's. I officially started on hormones in 1998, name change and ID 2003 - 2004 but I'm still not done yet.

Lol, yeah, I stole some from my mom as well when I was a teen, but rare occasions.
So you are on HRT as long as I am - 1998 - I legally changed everything after SRS in 2000. What is it that you still need to do?
