Hi Donna,
I have not a clue what you said but I have to admit French looks a gorgeous language, it has grace in character formation.

Hi Cindy,
My little text was simply an acknowledgement of Emilie's wish to exchange a bit in French. Like her I love French, especially spoken French which to me is reallly beautiful. however I love English too and actually all the languages I have tried my hand at over the years. Our mastery of language is what allows us to communicate our thoughts, perceptions and feelings to others and is a very intrinsic part of our humanity. Actually any sort of conscious thought seems impossible to me without language but maybe I'm wrong.
What also fascinates me is how much language determines how we think and articulate our perceptions. There are many concepts that are easy to express in English like leadership and accountability which simply don't exist in French and there are concepts in French like " accueil client" which have no equivalent in English.
Asian languages like Mandarin or Japanese take you into thinking processes which are even more radically different. In Japanese for example, "I" = Watashi wa is hardly ever used because you simply do not refer to yourself. Just imagine what this forum would be like if we put in a rule forbidding any direct reference to one's self ...

Bises
Donna
