Dr-Patient confidentiality kinda ends regarding this issue and the Feds, somehow they find out on occasion.  I don't know how the feds find out but there is a history of people getting orchi's (or who had orchi's done in the past) and having their documents changed back.  An Orchi is committed, and honestly I have no problem with it being used consider the costs of SRS.  Somehow somebody always tips them off, if its not the performing surgeon (often accidentally, or through detailing the procedure used on the documents), its somebody else.  Its actually kind of sad.

Licenses can be changed without issue, but that will change December 31, 2009.

There is difference of what is perceived in the transgender community and how the legal and regulatory system treats us.

Trust me, I wish how this was enforced differently.  But the reality is alot changed under the Bush administration for the worse.  It used to be you could change your SS card without SRS before the Bush administration.  They ended imposing the draconian passport rules that said only SRS (and a narrow definition of such) can change gender markers.

The thing is where they might get in trouble is if traveling to a foreign country and going through an invasive search.

Pre-Bush adminstration an Orchi would have been enough.  But they really have been going out of their way to screw transgender people and make things much more difficult.

The truth is if Doctors are willing to sign off on an SRS document after doing an Orchi, it may be the doctors who work with transgender patients have caught on and are sensitive to the changes in the law, not that the lawyer got around the rules.  It is ultimately the Doctors letter that determines whether things go forward or not.  It may be the doctor performing the orchi knew of the situation right now in the states and is willing to keep things quiet and sign off on an SRS procedure with regards to the letter, even though it was an orchi.

When the Bush Admin changed the SS rules, a ton of TS who had orchi's were outed, because the documents did not say SRS/GRS had been completed, and that an orchi was not enough.  This may be a case of doctors catching on to how the Bush administration and the courts are handling things.

The problem is if somebody tips off the feds, and it has happened.  People can be very cruel.

A good judge can also help also. The court order is key.

Shaking my head.........

I have had both the bilateral orchiectomy and a radical penectomy....

I have been on HRT for....18 months.

A chondrolaryngoplasty was successfully executed....

And it is just nagging me to death that, with all of these accomplished [and I very likely can get a letter from Henry Ford Urology, attesting to the procedure execution], this would not be sufficient.....................

Basically they have to attest to Sexual Reassignment has been completed (key word here) and that you are no longer male.

They have to sign a notarized letters to attest to as much.

(heavy sigh.............)

I wonder........

These procedures (orchiectomy and radical penectomy) by themselves are not 'gender altering' procedures necessarily, but collectively, in the context of everything else which has/is being accomplished....

And a name change is currently in legal process.

I don't know.....

This link is only for DL's and ID cards.  Amy has already provided an excellent link from Dr. Becky where you can obtain information regarding birth certificates.  As of 2004, the SSA requires proof of SRS (meaning male to female vaginoplasty reconstruction in MTF's) or (phalloplasty or metoidioplasty in case of FTM's) Everytime you see the words "genital reconstruction or genital operation" they are referring to these procedures.  Some states like California required a court order with proof of SRS prior to issuing a new birth certificate, the old birth certificate will be sealed or destroyed).  Some other states will only ammend a birth certificate and your original birth sex will not be changed regardless of the operations you might have had.

DISGUST...

To hell with it then.

I will press on with a procedure which I had already begun incipient preparation for, but was hesitant to follow through with: Breast Augmentation, 'C'-cup.

This is just really beginning to anger me.

You know what Amy? After having spent time in researching this subject, I think that I am going to experiment with a couple of processes here....

SRS is not a full requirement for michigan. Just putting that out there. A medical procedure can be HRT, or any feminizing therapy. You need birth cert BEFORE drivers liscence in Michigan now, however.

She might not see this, as the OP was over 6 years ago.

I can say one thing having had gone through the michigan thing. To get a new birth cert you need a notarized letter from the doctor. Make sure its notarized. I learned that the hard way and had to send a girl that was in thailand after me to the consulate to get my docs note notarized. Go figure.

Yup, def has to be notarized. Thats not a big deal at all. But im waiting now the new birth cert. :) not worried on the op seeing it or not, its an update, and better to use same thread for process update, due to search function and not clogging up with a ton of posts on same subject...if anyone ever hunts for it :) Hope the update helps someone, the medical affidavit needed is on the faq for birth certs on the state website.
