I'll start out by saying that I have PCOS so I don't get the visitor very often, actually I can go a few months without it sometimes. When I do get it though, it feels like the equivalent of all the months I missed. I was put on progesterone pills to stop this but they turned me into a raging mess so I stopped taking them.

When I get it; dysphoria, anxiety, and depression hit hard. Past the point of where I'm able to handle it. So I was wondering what other guys do to fight back that feeling of self hatred that comes along with the visitor. Are there things I can do to at least get my mind off of the fact that I have it, even for a little while?

Basically, you just have to find what works for you. Painkillers, sleeping a lot, and stuff like reading or internet have been pretty good distractions in my case. Sleeping is my best bet since I don't have to deal with the world at all that way, I just take a melatonin and an aspirin and wake up once the pain isn't as bad--and then watch cat videos. To retain my sanity and ease the dysphoria I sometimes view "it" more as an injury than anything else, something that will heal after time if I tough it out long enough. Like those action movie heroes who save the world despite being covered in bullet wounds.

Hope some of these suggestions help; it's a tough thing to go through but you will get through it eventually. Hang in there!

I treat that time of the month as just another curious physiological phenomenon, like using the toilet. I disassociate myself from it and just clear up the mess... just like any other toileting function. If there's a lot of carnage to deal with, I imagine I'm a marine with a serious war wound... so I have to apply my field dressing and just get through the day.

There's someone on Etsy that designs reusable cotton sanitary towels with more masculine prints on them; don't know whether that might help you cope. Personally, I quite like the idea of the sizzlin' bacon one. ;)

Thanks guys :) thinking of it as a wound actually helps a lot! Too bad work gets in the way of sleeping or else I'd take that advice too haha.

I find exercise helps. If I go for a hard run, or do some inverted yogs poses, it's almost like all the blood gets shaken out. I can get it all done (minus a day or two of dripping) in tw o days if I workout hard.

Plus, Ialways feel more manly when I exercise.

Yeah I was thinking of going to go to the gym today and maybe going to the barber and getting my haircut or something. Just to make me feel more masculine again.
