Heya!

I'm Mari (legal name is Simon) from the UK and I'm 18, studying History at university.

The story of my gender identity has not been a straightforward path to where I am now - first I inherited my parents' intrinsic distaste of anything that is sexually 'irregular', then went through an odd political spasm to the far right during my mid-teens. The last two years have therefore been spent catching up with myself and trying figure out exactly who I am. One important element of that has been realising that the very strong feelings that I would rather be female are not part of a short-term phase.

I met my girlfriend about a year and a half ago and she has been very helpful in comforting and encouraging me. She calls me Mariah, uses female pronouns and encourages me to wear more 'feminine' clothing which is much-needed anaesthetic.

So over the next few years I might start to take some steps, however small, in the right direction!

In my personal life I am into modern British and ancient Chinese history, but my main area is Scandinavian history ^-^. I can't get enough of Formula 1 (my favourite driver is Felipe Massa), and I listen to a ridiculous amount of Motörhead!

You lucky duck , I just missed out on going to the UK for school.
We seem to be very similar. We both like british 80's metal (I belve into some 70's as well, namely Judas Priest and Sabbath.) For some reason, girls aren't supposed to like sports, but I like football (the real one, not handegg) and hockey very much. Formula 1 isn't my preferred, but I far prefer it over that abomination that is NASCAR :P
You seem like you have a good path ahead of you. Not only do you have a supportive SO, but you also have a supportive government; NHS covers counseling, SRS, and a few other things. First off, you probably want to see a gender therapist. That can help a lot, and should be your first step if you're having gender issues. They'll help you best decide where to go from there.
Hugs and kisses for my new sister!

Thanks Willow, I guess I'll see a gender therapist during one of my vacations from uni. For now I'm going to be having regular meetings with a university counsellor :p. For now it's just a case of finding somewhere to live together with my girlfriend and take it from there.
I used to hate NASCAR too but I think their camerawork and showmanship is excellent!

Welcome!  Motorhead is a legend band in my opinion.  I always say that Lemmy Kilmister could do a remix of ANY song and it would sound great, if not better.

Enjoy the site!

Thanks Malachite! :)

Yeah... I think Lemmy's version of The Trooper is even more powerful than the original, and of course he got a Grammy for his cover of Whiplash :3

Really buzzing for the new Motorhead album on the 22nd :D Then 40 years of Motorhead in 2015.
