So in our municipal election, people are apparently allowed to have nicknames. One guy marketed himself as a school board trustee as "*girl's* Dad". In other words, his entire foundation for his campaign strategy was being a father. We also have a law that says you can't have any campaigning or endorsements for any candidate close to a voting station. Well, RIGHT on the ballot, he has his real name, and then in brackets "girl's Dad".
That's undemocratic! It's campaigning not just near the voting station, but on the actual ballot! I'm appalled that this was allowed to take place. People use "family" to appeal to people's interests - he established himself as a "family man" from day one, and labelling himself that way on the ballot is just another form of political marketing. There are people who are going to think "right! The dad! Wow, he is really committed to family values, I want that person on the board."
It's unfair. I'm seriously considering consulting the city.
