For me most definitely. I am free now. I account to no one and live by MY rules now. No one will ever bottle me up in a male body ever again. I am calmer and live life better than before. To see how I was raised go see my introduction. Then you will understand. I was 7 years old when I knew I was really a female. I waited 40 years to begin transition and could not have done it without my family here at Momma Susan's. We will not steer you wrong or give advice which could hurt you. We really care which is why we are trying to get you to slow down a little. In introductions look for Jessica Merriman. I think you will see why what you're dad said about gays is why I think you will have a tough road ahead. I hope I am wrong because support is needed in transition. Mine did not support me at all and deserted me.

Actually, school counselors are not therapists and they may not be real sympathetic. Tell her you need help telling your parents that you want to see a therapist regarding gender issues. Leave the gender part for an actual therapist or Dr. Do explain your fears/worries about telling them.

I've always got my mom's support! Have you had the reassignment surgery?

For counselors, do I need a gender specific one?

No baby, just a Gender Therapist. You decide if you want male or female. Mine is a male being supervised by a female.

Susan's chat is safe, many here use it and I have too with no issues from my anti virus. Don't download things and learn to use irc. You will be fine.

The gender of the therapist themself has no bearing on their ability to help you. You don't have to use a gender therapist but you do need one that is knowledgeable about gender issues. In Susan's wiki, at the top of the page, you will find names of people you can try. It will depend on your parents insurance also. Some people may not be covered depending on their plan. If you are on medicaid, then you can check from the internet.
