Hello Ladies I recently broke out in hives today and I'm trying to figure out what the source is. Do you think it could be my increased dosage of Spiro? If so is it life threatening, should I continue this dose or decrease it? The hives are only on my face and I used my proactive  today I haven't used it in really long time so that could also be the source. Do you ladies know and first hand experience?

I am on Spiro and have not had this problem. It is listed in the Physicians Desk Reference as a possible side effect though under Anaphylactic Reactions. Usually though reactions such as hives are more spread out on the body if it is a meds reaction. If you get swelling in your throat or nose though get to the closest Emergency Room as it is an emergency. If it spreads to other parts of your body or gets worse around the face go also. Could be if you have not used that particular bottle in a while it could have gone bad. I am a retired Paramedic by the way. Good luck. PM me if you need more info.

Thank you so much Jessica, I just ruled that it was the proactive. I looked up proactive allergic reaction and someone else said they broke out in hives around their eyes same and cheeks, same as me.

Been on Spiro 4 months now and definitely never had anything like that happen!

Had some on my leg, it comes and goes. I was talking to a woman who has been on HRT for many years and says a lot of people develop it, but it usually goes and comes back by itself.

Large doses of almost any drug over a very long period of time can result in what I found out was a Fixed Drug Reaction.  It can show up as hives, a rash, or open sores, but they are usually on moist areas of the body.  I stopped taking the medication I used and the reactions stopped. 

And I had many incidents of giant hives from something in my 20's and the swelling in my throat nearly blocked my airway once.  Yes hives can be deadly.  I suggest stopping the use of Proactive, and have it allergy tested on you by a doctor.  Or just find another product.

Wow, I just started on spiro a week ago and almost immediately broke out with bumps and lumps on the left side of my head, one on my forehead and one on my upper eye lid.
