Where do you get your HRT?

There is a Walmart close to my house so that's where I get my HRT from. Some of my meds get the cheap price ($4/$10) which is nice.

The first time I picked up estrogen I had the pharmacist come around from his work area to have a "chat" with me, and I knew what was coming. I just flat out told him that I am transgender and that ended that chat rather quickly LOL.....

A local mom and pop shop for me, they're really nice and my family has been going to them for many, many years. They're really good with all my meds :]

Ok true, with insurance though my dose is better at my regular pharmacy for 10.

I expect mine too....

How does US Pharmaceuticals insurance work for this stuff... can any of them tell the difference between HRT for menopause / PCOS and HRT for transgender hormone imbalance?

Is it legal to buy these meds in the USA? It isn't here (UK). When I was buying my own I had to import them from - ahem - the other Brits know where.

I get mine from Callen-Lorde which is a LGBT Health center in Manhattan. They handle a lot of Transgender patients with lots of experience. They charge on a sliding scale if you don't have insurance. (Which I don't at the moment, but will next month.) Spiro and Estrogen costs about $27/month total as they have their own pharmacy.

Nearby is an amazing place called Dr. Ike's Pharmacy. I have my HRT custom compounded there. It has very friendly staff, and they all know me as Jill despite all the prescriptions being in my legal name. I have a funny feeling I'm not the first transwoman they've encountered.

Why would they think you didn't know? I mean... maybe if it was just spiro - since that's a diuretic and could have been mis-prescribed.

Believe me, some will question you pretty heavily. It's daunting for some pharmacists to fill female hormones for someone presenting as male. Even though I've changed pharmacies and dealt with different techs, I no longer have an issue. However, when I started, I felt like I was about to be interrogated on 2 occasions. It's already hard enough to bring your first script of hormones to the pharmacy, the questioning only brings things over the top. At the end of the day, it's not so bad. They are just covering themselves for liability reasons and that's understandable.

I get only the utmost respect from the Walgreen's owned by Mazzoni (LGBT primary care center).

CVS, I get, are there any questions. I say no, then I get have a nice day SIR. I think they emphasize the sir, although it may just be me being sensitive. I just do not care anymore.

It is all in how the docs code this stuff, both meds and surgeries.

I've decided it's an imbalance causing angst. Partial feminization is a side effect. Most endos code it that way (I've heard mine does). If they want to audit (and likely they won't) I'm above board and prepared to defend my stance.

SAMs club.
I put in an order just a couple days ago. The assistant said they'll need to order some estradiol they don't keep that much in stock. Hehehe just a small mountain of the stuff, that's all.

The fun of current filling aside, the first fill at SAMs in the past had a nice little consultation, even discreet. The pharmacist lady practically used a fly swatter on customers to back them off the consultation window. Fun fun.

Both my spiro and premarin were paid by insurance. The premarin was not available when I went in, but I picked it up the next day. I just completed my 2nd day of HRT

Yes... I'm planning on requesting estradiol at my follow-up in January. If not for the pregnant ponies, I want to cut my expenses by up to $30/mo!!!
