Weird title for a topic. Sometimes... We just have little pearls of things that are important to us.
Little insights of wisdom that are nothing more than a couple lines.
We read them and make them as little meme's, words plastered over a picture or background.
Yet words that stand on their own, without the need of anything else.

Rather than having a running discussion about them, I'd like to see some of those.
Without the usual banter of what it means to you and/or others. Simply take it as a little pearl worth looking at.
There is much to be said by listening, rather than commenting.

Don't get me wrong, this is the place for comments, this forum. Running conversations. Cool.
But rather than pick the following apart, and losing sight of those pearls, lets just post them and let them be.
If you don't like them and want to respond, just let it be.
If you like them and want to respond, just let it be.
Don't use one as a response to one posted, let them stand on their own, just as your's should.
Think of it as respect to a couple lines or so, of wisdom.
Something meaningful, regardless of whether it's silly or serious.
Either way, just absorb it, or don't.
I wonder just how much we have to say without having to respond to it.
I know this goes against the idea of topics, but there are certainly plenty of topics that are discussed.
This just isn't one of them.

Nothing directed at someone, just words you might live by, find worthy of remembering.
The realizations that made you pause, look off into the distance, not focusing on what you see.
Simply those words that you might say and let drift off into the wind.
Say it and walk away, read it and walk away. What it means to you may be different to what it means to another.
We've all got our favorites, maybe a lot of them. Maybe some will find a new one to keep.
Which is just the thing. Those little words that mean so much that we keep.
I wonder how we choose such words as the people we are. Explanations not needed.
Care to share any of them, or to read them, without judgmental comments?

Sometimes the only thing that people see is what you did.
When if fact, they should be looking at why you did it.

Sometimes it's hard to see the big picture.
Discord, I'm howlin' at the moon
And sleepin' in the middle of a summer afternoon
Discord, whatever did we do
To make you take our world away?

Discord, are we your prey alone,
Or are we just a stepping stone for taking back the throne?
Discord, we won't take it anymore
So take your tyranny away!

Let the happiness of others and that of your own future overwhelm and guide you, you can do no wrong.

No one can tell you what goes on between the person you were and the person you become.
No one can chart that blue and lonely section of hell.
There are no maps of the change.
You just come out the other side.
Or you don't.

Lots of things in books by Lois McMaster Bujold that touch me; a few quotes I like:

"Some prices are just too high, no matter how much you may want the prize. The one thing you can't trade for your heart's desire is your heart."

"When you choose an action, you choose the consequences of that action. When you desire a consequence you had damned well better take the action that would create it."

"I've always thought tests are a gift. And great tests are a great gift. To fail the test is a misfortune. But to refuse the test is to refuse the gift, and something worse, more irrevocable, than misfortune."

"I am who I choose to be. I have always been what I chose, though not always what I pleased."

"What you are is a question only you can answer."

"Adulthood isn't an award they'll give you for being a good child. You can waste... years, trying to get someone to give that respect to you, as though it were a sort of promotion or raise in pay. If only you do enough, if only you are good enough. No. You have to just... take it. Give it to yourself, I suppose. Say, I'm sorry you feel like that and walk away. But that's hard."

More or less.

I'm not sure it's possible to express in English the implications of using "fressen" (what animals do) instead of "essen" (what people do.)

The idea is that people's animal needs must be taken care of before morality can play a role.  (But expressed in Brecht's inimitable punch-in-the-face style.)

I had that conversation with Zoot, a member here.  As I recall fressen is the verb to devour.

Topic derailed in seven comments.
The androgyn section is back on track.
If ever there was a group of people who run on tangents, it's here.
The one place moderators have never tried to keep a topic on track.
Not as long as I've ever been here, anyways.
Where else can you go that discussions drift one into another?
LOL, the forest paths lead everywhere and nowhere, an enigma of how to get from here to there and back again.
The perpetual side paths that lead to other side paths.
The forest isn't so much of a place as it is an adventure in discussions.
Here there isn't a compass, or one even needed. No map that defines a direction.
We're not going from here to there, we are there.
Does it seem like every topic has a part of another topic in it?
The paths of the forest cross over and run next to another one and then go somewhere else again.
It's a pretty amazing thing to see. It's even more so if you wander off, only to find yourself right back where you began.

Oh, we're back on topic ? ... OK:

Fear is a lack of trust.

Mostly it is a lack of trust in ourselves.

Often it is also a lack of trust in others.
