Hi All

Ok so I will introduce myself first as I am new to this particular site......hello! If this is posted in the wrong place then I apologise, we are spoilt for  choice with all the categories!  :P

My name is Kay and I'm at the start of my hopefully successful transitioning journey. I currently live in Bangkok where I am a teacher and live my life as a dude in the day and go out when I can as a dudette. After years of thought, doubt, self hatred, bouts of depression, denial, worry and all the other horrible things that go through ones mind I have decided that this is the year I am going to make things happen....yay!

The position I currently find myself in however will play a huge factor in how I go about things. Obviously I want as much help as possible and to transition in a safe way. This would take me down the route of getting a referral from my GP and eventually a few visits to a GIC. The problem i face is that my work here in Bangkok is going really well and I cant afford to go home yet, financially or career wise.

I am currently taking Finasteride in the form of Proscar but If I was to stay here on a long term basis would start to add a low dosage of Estraderm as well, in the form of the patches.

I would love to hear from other people who have had experience with this particular drug or those who have started transitioning abroad.....or just anyone who can help out.

I'm not rushing into anything and just trying to educate myself in depth on every possible avenue I could take and would love some help doing so :)

I have read that a lot of those transitioning who use Estraderm patches. I would start lower if I were to do this. I don't want to shock my body and know that more does not equate to better, from a health or results perspective.

I would just want to start slow, in the safest way I can that allows me to stay here (Bangkok) until I go home in the future and get myself to the GP and eventually GIC.

Thanks for your time  :D

Hi Kay,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

In answer to your questions, I'd prefer to leave that to other members who have more experience in that particular scenario. I just wish you well in your endeavours.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Do not self mediation. I did it way back in the day and it is not worth the effort. And you will not get any help from me.

If you are here on this forum asking what doses to use i feel you do not truly understand all that is involved.

So again do not start, seek out profesional help where you are living.

Also you can not put dose amounts on the forum so be ready to hear from a mod.

Heya Catherine,

Thats awesome to hear thankyou. I've bounced around one or two sites and whilst I have chatted with some really helpful people I look forward to meeting more  :D

I was just about to say a lot of sites you get some girls who think you are after actual medical advvice rather than just a bit of a chat about experiences and as soon as you mention anything they paint you with this,"your an idiot for even thinking about it" brush.Or assume that you are diving into it head first. Then the second post came, i fear it will be the same here.

Hi Kay :)

I can't comment about different hormone delivery methods or dosages.

I'm also a long term ex-pat and for my own peace of mind and ongoing good health I went to a therapist who referred me to an endo and after a blood test I'm on HRT.

There were hoops to jump through but it's better I think to be on the safe side.

Good luck anyway, stay safe and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

Heya Joan

Did you go to a therapist in Bangkok? I had a look online for a few but didnt have any luck getting in touch with anyone. If i could do the transition here with a doc that would be great! Safety and my job  8)

It is a touchy subject, HT. However when I read your intro I didn't get the feeling you were in self medication, it was simply seeking others experiences. Sometimes we misinterpret what is written and fail to see the 'spirit' of the thread. So you ay have to bear with us until others who have had this particular experience, jump on board.

Having spent some time abroad I know how difficult it is to find the rhythms of other cultures.

Kaylow is there a reason why you can't go privately to an endo in Bangkok? I'm sure there must be a few. If your referring to GIC's in the UK, you will be in for a loooong wait (unless you fast track that somewhat privately aka gendercare or via transhealth).

I think a lot of people advice against self-medicating because without proper supervision their may be health complications, but also it's far, far more effective for an Endo to administer HRT. That being said, some endo's will just stick you on pills and be done with it. I highly recommend finding an endocrinologist who is experienced and comfortable using pellets or gels/patches over pills.

Hia  :D

Catherine:  Yea I agree it definitely is haha, most people just care a lot which is always nice but others assume everyone who entertains even the idea of it is some lunatic who wants to gobble up as many chemicals as possible!  Though I hope you dont feel I was aiming that at you...your introduction was super welcoming  :-*

Bordoux: It's something I have been trying to get some info on but don't really know where to start, I tired getting in touch with some psy's but no luck. I have been in touch with many uk GIC's already to check that getting help whilst I am here won't hinder getting help when home.

Emily: I totally agree. Yes they are body altering chemicals that if abused or taken for granted will cause long term health defects and even death. Though a mature adult, taking a small dose of certain things based on heaps of research . All the time having regular blood checks from the same doctor who knows what you are on does drastically reduce this.

Everyone: Thanks for the input  ;D

Absolutely not. I did not sense any such intent.

I am not sure why you feel you have no help there in Thailand.

There is 2 very well know surgeons there that people all around the world travel to for ther GRS/SRS/GCS.

Dr. Chettawut Plastic Surgery Center
The Dr. Suporn Clinic

That is just 2 well known and i bet you they will be able to help you find a doctor that will handle your HRT.

I am sorry you feel the way about me. I will always try and talk anyone out of doing the DIY HRT.

Hi friends  :police:

Not only is self medication dangerous, it is also against the rules of this site

Quote8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:
A. You may not advocate for or against a specific medication or combinations of medication for personal gain. This is strictly prohibited.
B. You may not discuss the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription. The discussion of self medication without a doctors supervision is prohibited.
C. The discussion of recommended or actual dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.
We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.
