And another screw-up. The home I had a few hopes about:
Seemingly, my father went to see it in near complete darkness. The person showing it forgot the flashlight, and he never thought about using the phone as a flashlight.
So, I had to track down the place in website until I could find enough photos to make myself an idea:
- Tiles in Kitchen and bathroom don't go up to the ceiling. While not a problem in the kitchen, it means I would be wetting the paint every time I shower. Not designed for tall people.
- The plumbing is older than Jesus. The faucet in the kitchen is one of those oldies where you need to turn two knobs to control the hot water. And since they are coming out from the wall instead of the sink, putting a modern faucet means a massive work and also adding a new sink
- It will require buying a new washing machine, an air vent, microwave oven and oven
- going back to the bathroom, lead plumbing and one of those old high level cisterns on the toiled, more prone to failure. Which has the pipe crossing the insides of the wall.
In the end, upgrading it would require massive money, so it is only viable if the price can be negotiatied to 20.000€ less that its current prince. So again I don't have a possible home, and I won't even check it tomorrow.
In the end we are accepting that any home in the range we can affor will require a considerable amount of fixing. We are going to check another that is a complete mistery. It requires repairs but we don't know of what kind. But at least the bulding is fairly "modern" (70's, possibly) and a more or less up to date kitchen is already installed (no appliances). I'm scared about what I will see.
I am also afraid that any repairs I have to do while not having a source of income will come from my savings. As I told my father, the 10.000€ I had kept for SRS are holy. But I am afraid I will have to spend them and I will never be able to do it...
