Hey guys! Thought I'd give this ago. I'm 99.999% sure I don't pass in the slightest, but I think everyone in this thread seem to be aware of subtle things that stop you from being able to pass. Anyway, I know I've got long hair, but since they're dreadlocks, I don't think that's what people think makes me a girl, and I don't think a short haircut would make me look like a guy at all. I think it's just make me look like a girl with short hair. But yeah, so...thoughts?

i think you pass, and i also think that you would fit short hair, however if you like it long you should keep it that way.

Not my thread so I hope you don't mind me adding my observations, but as you know a lot of men these days do wear their hair longer than do some real angular faced alpha males and it works for them and frankly they look better than if they are wearing a crew cut. Let me suggest that many FtM's have not gone through 30 - 40 years of masculinizing and their features are often a lot softer and more youthful appearing than a cis male contemporary and so it does work much better to wear your hair longer like so many cis males with softer features do. Just my opinion, hope I don't step on anyone's toes.

This right here. It is easy to forget when you are feeling confident about how you look that most guys that rock awesome mohawks are cis and have been going through what we are just barely going through their entire lives. Not saying trans guys cant pass with mohawks, but its definitely harder. I know a few younger cis guys that didnt even pass with hair like that!

Longer hair tends to have shadows that shape the face differently too, when its all out of your face you can see very clearly every feature, so if you have even a slightly soft face it pops out. something to keep in mind when choosing pre-t hairstyles.

So I'm pretty new here, but want to get straight to the case xD Do i pass in your eyes?
in my home town I've passed id say 80% of the time when talking to people i don't know. a teacher I've had for 1 and a half year still thinks I'm a guy etc. and my dentist thinks I'm a guy even after i had a long chat with her and she knew i was 18.. like.. what is it that makes me pass? i have such a freaking baby face x_x I've been complimented for walking and sitting/standing like a guy though(from grown ups who knew i was ftm) might that be why? and what do you guys think of my hair cut? should i stick to the a bit longer one or the new one i have now? I'm not sure. i don't feel uncomfortable in either so id prefer to have the most masculine one. sorry for all the questions xD

I think you pass! I think your haircut helps a LOT, but I just think in general you've got the kind of features that help you pass. That said, if you told me you were 18, I'd be like, "Wow, really? You look so young!" haha.

I would try to find a shirt that fits more like an adult male -- something I am currently struggling with.

I was an alternative kid growing up and I live in a liberal area so I've seen a ton of dreads. What I've noticed is that women often wear their dreads down and men tie them back into a ponytail. You might try doing something like that. It will probably help more if you live in an area where dreads are common, but other areas might just see you as a woman with a ponytail.

Definitely the shorter hair one.  You pass better with that one, plus I think you just look better (more attractive), and older, with that cut.

Thanks for your input :) do you mean a shirt that isn't so baggy? And yeah, I've noticed guys with dreads tie them back in a low ponytail, so I'm going to try that.

Yeah, one more form-fitting. Baggy shirts are okay for passing as a boy, but I think clothes that fit better make you look more like an adult guy.

Got my hair cut today and I think it looks pretty damn good. Warning: extreme ugliness below.

Adam (birkin)

You're not ugly Calder. And I like your haircut! I would say that you'd probably pass to me, but only if you carried yourself with confidence.
  •

beaver

Calder, I agree with birkin, I don't think you're ugly at all. I think your facial features are quite masculine, your lips aren't too pouty, and your cheekbones aren't very prominent. Is it strange to say that I think you have masculine eyebrows?
  •

Calder Smith

Well, thanks guys. I have very little self-confidence.

Beaver, my eyebrows look masculine? I think they're feminine looking like my eyes.

Shorter hair for sure. How long have been on T for? Don't worry about the baby face, I had a really hard time with getting ID'd whilst i was studying at University. I used to dread waiting in queues for clubs or ordering a drink at the bar as i would always get asked for ID or laughed at. At 18 i looked about 14-16 i suppose. As you age though, the skin texture changes and makes a big difference. That and my small frame started to fill out a bit more. You'll be fine mate :)

Hard to see cause the pic is a tiny bit blurry, but to me Your eyebrows looks kinda neutral. And I would not say that Your eyes are feminine looking - the expression is a bit mischievous and You have that smirk/grin and that's it. The overall impression is pretty much boyish, IMO :).

Thanks! :)

So, I'm back, with a couple more recent pictures, still pre-everything, but I'm seeing a therapist and planning on starting T soon. What parts of my face look masculine or feminine? and how old do I look? I'm definitely going for older rather than younger. (:

@Calder- I think your eyebrows look perfect, they don't seem to make your face look feminine at all, they fit you great. 8D..... Also, nice smirk. xD

Thanks! I smirk in my photos all the time because I hate my teeth and don't want to fully smile.

You may want to edit your post, if I remember correctly if you're under-18 it's against the rules to post your age. Just giving you a heads up. :)

I say you look about 16. I don't see anything feminine that stands out.. maybe your lips but ah, I think you pass.

I don't see any features I see as feminine, you definitely pass to me, and I'd say you look about 16 or 17.

Xenguy - Definite pass to me.  I wouldn't think twice about it seeing you on the street
