Hello! I just measured my shoulders circumference, and it is 46.5 inches! I am curious as to how others look with similar shoulder circumference. My reasons are I would like to see exactly how I would look to a person that would be passing by!
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

It would be hard to tell without also having other measurements.  And also what caused the measurements (muscle, fat, bone structure).  And where the circumference came from (width or thickness).
Discord, I'm howlin' at the moon
And sleepin' in the middle of a summer afternoon
Discord, whatever did we do
To make you take our world away?

Discord, are we your prey alone,
Or are we just a stepping stone for taking back the throne?
Discord, we won't take it anymore
So take your tyranny away!

That is true. I am rather muscular in my bicep area, but my family has a big bone structure in the upper body area. I believe both the muscle and bone structure are factors. My biceps are 15 inches in circumference on both sides, and the front and back width of my shoulders are 20 inches each. Not that it's super important but just to see from a similar perspective.

It is good that you are seeing changes! I can't wait to start taking them. I am 175 lbs 5'10, 31'' waist 40 inch hips my chest area is 37''. No cup size yet! My goal is 145 lbs 28'' waist 42'' hips, 38 C or D

Wow! This is a post I made from almost six years ago, that's so freaky to see it again. I was reading through and chuckled at the girl that thought the only reason I brought it up was to somehow make others feel "less" feminine or something. Ohhhh Susan's members, lol. I was so naive back then.

It's crazy because now I'm 5'5" with a shoulder circumference of like 41". Craziness, 6 years on hrt and weight loss I guess.

I'm chiming in because I happened to have looked up the "mean" shoulder circumference for men and women, using the US Army's 1988 Anthropometric Survey (which itself is a bit flawed as it was taken from a poll of service personnel, so only those who fit within the military's induction requirements for height and weight were evaluated). The survey is meant for setting design parameters for defense contractors, and 1774 men and 2208 women were measured. I found the survey far more dispassionately useful than anything else I saw on line as a means of seeing where I fit in at the start and after transition.

The mean for women: 40.43 with a deviation of 2.05 (the outliers were 49.65 and 33.94)

The mean for men: 46.27 with a deviation of 2.38 (the outliers were 56.06 and 38.03)

That said, don't get hung up on this. Women come in all sizes. Also: hormones and weight loss (which are interrelated as you lose so much muscle mass and weight) DO reduce the soft tissues at the shoulders and elsewhere. The only thing that is unaffected is bone size. I did lose height, but that seems to be because of muscle. I also went down a shoe size. I'm not saying this is true for all, just what happened to me.

Wow, my friends were right!

They keep on telling me I'm lucky as I already have slim shoulders.  I never believed them till I read through a bit of this thread, measured and realised that 6' height and 41.5" shoulders is pretty damn nifty after a 10 month low dose, 7 month normal dose hrt.

Ehn it's over rated.

Granted, my shoulders are a bigger problem in certain dresses, but not in day to day stuff.
This is my first picture for here at Susan's.

I'm 5'11 and 43" pre HRT, hope I can drop to 39" eventually!

TheQuestion

I'm a little worried about this as well; I'm gonna go find my tape measure...

TheQuestion

I'm 6 feet and just measured; I come out at around 43-44.  I'm a little bummed about that.  I'm not on hrt, so hopefully I'd lose a bit more.  I think I may have measured wrong though.  I measured a few inched down from my actual shoulder bone, which could have have added a solid inch or maybe a bit more, or maybe nothing I guess... i don't know.

I'm 5'9" and about 39" circumference. Pre-HRT.
Also I just did about a month of heavy lifting for work and gained about 2" circumference from the muscle gain ):
So in a typical month I'd be around 37"
Edit: not sure if I'm measuring right, depending on how tight I hold the tape it is anywhere from 37 to 41...

I used to be exactly that height. About a year after beginning HRT, my height was down to 5'10". By about a year and a half later, my dress size went down from 18 to 14, my bra size went from 40A to 38B. Modest improvements. I checked the shoulders just now... still 43...

As for biceps data in the shoulder measurments, I don't think it would make much difference. The measurement is taken at the top ends of the biceps, where they thin out over the bone. Wouldn't be much biceps there anyway.

Hi Hypatia, do you mind me asking how old you were when you started hrt?  I know cartilage and muscle between the spine tends to shrink, and being taller than average, there's probably a bit more to lose than someone several inches shorter.  I'm literally exactly 6' if not a touch under.  If I got down to a legitimate 5'11" I'd feel far better just knowing that I wasn't 6'.  I'm 26 however, so I'm still fairly young, I'd love to lose the height prematurely though, thanks...

Sir Real

I haven't noticed any guys posting here (sorry if I missed any!), but seems like it might add to the convo.  I'm 173cm or 5'8.  I'm really small framed, an ectomorph, if you will.  My shoulders are at 40" in circumference right now and 16.5" across.

Sigh... 45"... I hate all of you skinny small-framed b****es. :P

Posture makes a big difference in apparent shoulder dimensions.  The human upper torso is remarkably flexible.  Part of what makes female shoulder typically narrow is that they are rolled back and up (and the lower back arched) to compensate for breast weight.   Try moving your shoulders around in a mirror and you'll see that you can take several inches out of your circumference and width without to much exaggeration.

I'm 42 inches I believe.  17-17.5 inches across.

I guess that's ok for 6 feet, even though they look pretty square to me I know they're not enormous at least. *shrug*
