My coming out at work is sort of atypical and incomplete, so bear with my story. As of now I'm not working, but I worked twice as a temp during my transition. They are likely going to be my future employer again in a month or so, but that's a whole other topic. Before I started working there, one of my best friends used to be an employee for this medical practice. He;s a very quirky metrosexual sort of guy, so it was obvious that all the girls there are okay with alternative "males". My friend got me hired as a temp and informed his boss about my transition. Apparently she was the only person that knew, but his mom also worked there and people talk. When I started working there, it sort of became obvious to most people that I was "different" Along with my quirkiness and the potential that people likely talked was ongoing changes to my appearance. I did come out to one other employee and they were nothing but supportive. I also spoke with my boss and she was okay with me transitioning and working for the practice. Her words were "that will never be an issue for me". All the other employees seemed very supportive and okay with me. Only problem was a hiring freeze blocked me and I'm waiting for an appeal to finally finish so I can work there again (probably in June or shortly after).
My story is very atypical, but you never know. People out there are more accepting than I thought they would be and the world isn't always as dark of a place that I envision. That's a good thing, lol. While I can't say how your work place will react, I truly hope everything goes well.
