So I'm still very much in boy mode while I wait for my divorce to finalize and body to make some more changes. I have however been working my way steadily towards that awkward androgenous state. I went to a new hair stylist who has had experience working with transgender women. And she was awesome and helped me put what hair I have into a style and just trimmed up the back so that I don't get a mullet.

What do you think?

I feel pretty good about it. Most of my friends like it. Most of my coworkers think that it's weird or that I look like justin beiber with it.

3 words: Let it grow. You have pretty hair and you shouldn't be ashamed of it. So what if it's medium length. Keep it going. You can be cute and be a guy at the same time. You have BEAUTIFUL hair, and I'd compare it to mine in lots of ways. Shiny, straight, healthy, strong, has lots of movement....

If you want positive reinforcement, skip the rest of this post.

The way she cut it in the back is catastrophic to a female cut. You're going to want to kill her in a few months when you're trying to grow long hair and you have to keep cutting everything else to make it all even. The front is cute, but looking at the entire picture is bad for a female transition. I understand your situation, but there's just no turning back with what she did with the back. It's going to take a few more haircuts to even get in the position to have it grow out nicely.

You're looking at probably 18 more months before you have hair of your own that you'll love. When you have it, omg you'll love it. I could curse her out for cutting all that off in the back.

What matters most is what you think about it.  I think it looks nice overall, though it's more on the andro side.  Just remember the more you cut, the longer it will take to grow out.  If that's not what you want, then that's fine, but just let it grow out if you eventually want to have long hair.  It's a process that takes forever. Otherwise, I think it looks good.

P.S.  Your hair looks so shiny and healthy.  I'm very jealous as mine has been destroyed from all my flat ironing, lol.

Yeah. (I'm gonna jump on the negativity bandwagon). It doesn't look andryogenous it looks... gay.  Not quite as gay as some of the Miley Cyrus "anti-mullets" I've seen around here recently, that I've only seen on 20 something flamin' gay guys, but still.

I'm sure she was going for this look:

But she actually didn't thin it out enough all around. So you've pretty much got a "chilli-bowl" (punch bowl?) haircut.  As Alaina said, it's going to take for ev er to get length back and you'll have to keep trimming the sides to keep them in check.

But you are cute!

Continuing from what James said, I'm not sure if that cute cut that ze posted would work for you. It seems you're thinning up top and it would be a hot mess if you did that. I wish I had something constructive to say, but the only thing I can think of is you need to grow out the back and continue to get everything evened out all over. If you are in fact thinning up top, you have no real choice but to grow it out and style it all backwards unless you can get a hairpiece.

And James, between you and I (and everybody reading this, obviously), every time I read "I'm thinking of getting a pixie cut" as some sort of andro - transition solution, I want to barf. Pixie cuts are actually hard to cut to make look good on cis women, let alone trans women. And don't kid yourself, if some pretty, cis women look a bit masculine in a haircut, most of us are going to look downright manly in them. So I'm making this public service announcement while I'm ranting: If you're thinking of getting some cute celebrity inspired pixie, DON'T!!! Chances are, you'll just get somebodies interpretation of that hair cut and it'll look like a disaster that will set you back months from being able to pass.

Sorry if I'm aggressive, but one of my biggest pet peeves are pixie / short cuts and the trans communities fixation towards them as if they're some sort of all encompassing, best of both world situation. I wish we could stop being so afraid of growing hair to about shoulder length and learning to style it when we want to be cute.

yeah, "Pixie cut" is what I was trying to think of but "anti-mullet" is what popped into my brain. LOL.

Don't be afraid to grow your hair out!! You should totally go that!! There's lots of men with longer hair so who cares, good luck!!

I think she's done the best she can , given that you're still in boy mode. The big difference between boy/girl short hair is the way that it tapers at the back and sides. If  she had tapered it at the back it would have looked too feminine.

I have to disagree with Alaina, whilst agreeing with her about pixie cuts. I think that long haircuts can look good, as they do on her, but frequently make a long face longer and even on a cis girl can make them look quite manly especially if it's straight and flat.

I think that hair about the length of your wig, ie bob length, would be your best

Definately, you should let it grow. I love long hair, I have long hair, love long hair on guys and girls. It just all depends on you though and the variables like your job if it's acceptable and the situation surrounding your impending divorce and other things.

Haters gona hate.

^ Probably around the same time.

^IDK, around last Christmas.

I'm growing it out now anyways, but I had short hair when I was starting to transition.

Aint nobody gonna hate Tiffany. Hair is just like anything else, it's a personal preference. I just love long hair. But I still find girls and guys attractive with short hair and on some guys no hair. It is a pain in the butt to have and take care of and always seems to get in the way. And in guy mode people make all kinds of assumptions. Assumptions like I'm transgender :o or self centered becaue I actually take care of it or on drugs Yeah, I know pony tail right, not for me in guy mode 'cause I though I may look good with a fringe a while back and if I wear a high ponytail like a girl, it all fits but low like a guy it looks even more like a girl's. The front just ain't caught up yet and both ways work as a girl but not as a guy.

First of all, there's no hating... only help.  I'm saying what I say with experience. I went to beauty school, my mother is a stylist, my best friend is a stylist, I've worked in a salon... I can explain everything I said.

Not to be rude, but some advice: don't part your hair like you did in your middle pic. Your hairline and thinned out hair gives everything away. Furthermore, the width of your jaw does not lend itself to that hairstyle. The best of those 3 pics is the bottom one, which you're actually covering up your hair and the angle of the shot is top down, neutralizing the effect of your jaw. I know you're growing your hair out but since it's top heavy due to what looks like (about a 15 degree angle) over direction, it's going to look goofy if unless you keep going back for haircuts. It is a feminine hair cut, but many women don't like those cuts for a reason....

Pixie cuts are for impatient people who want to express some form of femininity but in the end it costs them. IDK how many times I've said it on this board: JUST LET IT GROW! Don't get it cut AT ALL unless it's just to even the ends a little bit. And no, if you cut it regularly, it will NOT grow faster, that's a full blown myth.

It's not hate. It's help. Have the hair you want. I'm just giving a well informed opinion.

What Alaina? :o Next thing your gonna say is that cutting your hair diring a full moon won't make it grow faster? >:(

Lots of people claim if you cut it, it grows faster. It's the dumbest myth I've ever heard. It was probably started by stylists to get more cuts and generate more money.

I think your hair looks decent, but you would look AMAZING with long hair, and should consider growing it out a bit.  The way it is right now, the front is really cute, but the back looks like a bowl-cut/mushroom-cut, which makes it lean towards an outdated men's hairstyle.  I think you'll look incredible if you ever get the chance to grow it out some!

Yeah I know. But the shorter it is it does seem to grow faster. 1 inch hair seems to grow quicker than 12 inch hair.  Now not even you can debunk that. ;) remember the key word is "seems".

A lot of the things about hair that I heard growing up seems more like superstitious, something about washing it in rainwater, this that and the full moon deal. I think the only thing that is true and I really can't remember whether it is hard water or soft water but one or the other makes mine really soft and shiney. I still have to load it with a lot of stuff to keep it from being frizzy though. But one makes it look and feel way better.

Thanks for the comments gang.

Learningtolive, yeah I have to use a flat iron or lots of prayers. I have naturally wavy hair. I have seen your hair though girl and it's cute. Trust me girls like you used to turn me down for dates in high school and you are only getting better.

Alainaluvsu, she only cut the back. It's okay, no really I'm patient and I expect to make mistakes. At this point I want to look like my avatar pic. Except without caked on makeup and perpetual beard shadow. Fixing these things will take time and here in south a slow change is best. Even this style has had my coworkers puzzled on if I'm gay or just having a midlife crisis. At least with the back cut short I meet official dress code with my hair not on my collar. I do have a thin crown. It is growing back however slowly now with finasteride and HRT.

Tiffany, thank you and I think that you have awesome hair.
