Okay, so I'm a newbie here but I checked - no one had done a poll for "hobbies" on the list of polls (at least recently).  I deliberately left out passive home stuff like watching TV/movies, reading and writing or active stuff like shopping or housecleaning because, from what I presume, most of us do that.  Thus, I want to uncover things we DON'T know about one another.

Picking just THREE may be hard but you'll just have to pick your faves.  Have fun.  Good night and good luck.

Hey, you forgot building and racing cars, motorcycles, boxing etc.... and Nature activities, so aside from Walking and running for excercise you didn't leave me three that I actually do as a regular rull time activity or hobbie purpose.

Ya gotta remember, some of us girls like to get gritty.

I picked out 3, but would like to have something else to do in my life. I'm kind of winding down on the volunteer work and bicyling I do only when the weather is nice along with gardening. I'm not into the other things nor the dirty things like cars or things like that.

I put singing under "musical instrument", but it sounds awfully like one of those pretentious voice coaches: "you MUST take care of your instrument", "feeeeel your instrument".

And what, no computer geeky stuff?

Dennis

For me, none of the above.
I'm into the geeky hobbies plus a few others.
Computers (building and programming), electronics (design and experimenting), photography, wood working, and those are just the ones on the top of my head.

I love doing the work but where I handle food all day I do wear latex gloves-makes the clean up much easier.

I was in the driveway last summer, the car up on jack stands so I could rotate the tires and Mike, the neighbor and his wife drove up and he asked "why in the world are you doing that"  My answer was simply "Because I can"

If its something I can't do or don't have the knowlege to do I take my car to a woman owned and totally woman staffed automotive shop.

With no fishing or camping on the list, half of the women I know would have less places to vote.

Some you missed, Teri Anne, that I'm into are
Nature activities like birdwatching and enjoing nature.  I collect fish and maintain a freshwater 90 gallon aquarium.
Also I'm a computer geek too and love fixing computers (hard on the fingernails and I can't wera latex glovesdoing that) creating websites and PP slidshows and just surffing around the internet.
One of my newest hobbies is collecting woman shoes. ;D

Oh! Religion is not a hobby for me it's a realtionship with Jesus Christ, but I picked it in the poll anyway.

I think this is a very good way to learn more about our sisters and brothers here at Susan's.

Sketching (pastels and charcoal), rollerblading, coin collecting, all things fantasy (D and D, novels, festivals, etc.).  I have way too much time on my hands  :-[   I think though that sketching fantasy characters is my favorite hobby.  I love Dragonlance characters the most. (even Bupu!)

Yikes, you'all came up with some great additions.  Unfortunately, if I add them now, the poll becomes somewhat meaningless because yuo can't revote with your preferred choice.  "Nature" is something I'd jotted down on my pencil list but forgot to include.  Sketching I'd list under "art."  Rollerblading isn't really walking or running....hmm, this list could be 25 or more choices!  While "religion" and "watching concerts/plays" aren't what I'd define as "active hobbies, they nevertheless, for some people are very important, so felt I had to include them.  Fixing and racing cars, building computers, photography, woodworking...gosh, all wonderful active pastimes!  Maybe we'll try this "hobby" test in a few months with these additions.

One of my faves is scuba diving in the Caribbean during the summer.  The woman who helped my transition (my "womantor") introduced me to the sport and I'm most happy when I'm underwater.  I glide around over 70 foot cliffs and don't fall - it's the closes thing to flying that I know.  Oops - there's another hobby I left out - flying!  Maybe the list should be 100 choices, lol.

By typing these choices in your posts, we know you better than we did before.  Thank you.

Probably more (=

I claim all things computers as a hobby, even if they are work related too. For that matter, I seem to think rpg design is a hobby... more like obsession lol... but that dove tails pretty close to my work too (game developer, well attempting to be :P) other than that... um.... thinking (=

 :( ??? :-[ :-\ :'(

I don't fit in.

I don't do any of these.

I weave baskets
I swim for personal health everyday
I do the decorating for the rentals we have and in our home.
I would love to play piano so I have one I bought from a woman for $100.00 about 15 years ago. Can find someone who will teach adults.
I collect a lot of things does that apply or do we need another poll for collections?

Oh I gues I do some volenteer work at the nursing home  beauty shop and fix the ladies hair once a week. Oh goodie I do to fit. I guess I can go back to the poll now.

Smiles, ^-^ :D :)

Sorry if it is against the rules to bump up a topic like this! but I didn't see that in the rules. :D

I do a lot of things, but I'm mainly into musical instruments! I play trumpet (which I don't really like anymore), clarinet, and flute. I really want to play bassoon really bad, in fact that is what I want to major in! Music, and bassoon perhaps! It's a distant dream, but that's what life is all about for me, is it not?

I also am known as a good writer and I draw a lot. I've won quite a few contests drawing.

People always call me creative. Good to know I'm at least good for something! LOL.

When I have the motivation I really enjoy designing and building furniture and smaller items in my way too small (1 car garage) woodshop.

I enjoy a little gardening too but more landscaping than vegetable or flower gardening.

As a frustrated musician (piano, viola, guitar, clarinet, all when I was younger) I enjoy travelling about the local area to listen to local talent.  There's some pretty good stuff out there if you can find it or, in other words, wade through the junk to get to.

Golf (sorry about the four letter word ! :D) is a summer passion.  I get to see all of the out of the way spots on the course too!  Makes me feel like I'm getting my money's worth and more  :P

For me, it's religion first.  I'm always doing philosophy, meditation, and spiritual practices to modify my aura.  Barefoot walking, stargazing, et cetera ad nauseam.

Second is literature.  I like writing short fiction.

Third is music.  I'm not really proficient, but I like to play around on my synthesizer.  Sometimes I'll compose stuff, but not often.

Hi,

Hmmm, I would never consider "Religion" a hobby.

Sarah,

The practice of a religion would not be a hobby however the study of religions by an amateur could be considered a hobby. I believe that is what the author of this poll was meaning.

A hobby is nothing more than an activity pursued for one's enjoyment.

I enjoy my religious practices most of all.  Therefore, they are at the top of my hobby list.
