i just dont like them lol. makes me feel like i have to remain in the system and here's the kicker, having a diagnoses of anything, for instance adhd, gives justification to through you into special ed, completing destroying your chances of being able to effectively navigate life. i just hate labels so much but i know they are necessary in order for people to get the help they need, its just sometimes those labels are used as justification to do more harm than good. i should know becuz i was thrust into special ed after one flip out in my public school, i worked hard to try and get out but they just kept me in there causing me to fall even more behind. now i'm in college and i can barely do the work i'm assigned. its just, ugh! how i hate labels though i know they are necessary.

Yeah, they're kind of a double edged sword. Having an ASD diagnosis got my son into a program he needs to prepare him for school and a borderline diagnosis got me into DBT which was fantastic. On the other hand, yeah, it can be used to hurt people. I've experienced that too. Mostly the whole misdiagnosis thing and parents, former friends, and family using them to hurt me.
Personally, I just use them as short hand. It's easier to say borderline than give someone an essay. Although I'd rather give them the essay. One of them I just use as short hand for myself because it helps me make my thoughts coherent if I put words to them. I don't have to be in the system unless I want to be and have gotten to the point where therapists in the system agree that I am fine on my own.
