Hi Everyone,

I'm looking into having my trachea shave later this year, live in Sydney Australia, and wondering if anyone one else in Aus or even Sydney has had theirs done here?

I've been looking online and made a few inquiries to a few clinics/surgeons but there is only one that I can actually find in Sydney who actually advertises that they do trachea shaves. This makes me think, even if other surgeons say they can do it, how would the results be, and how about those that say they can do it but only do the procedure only once in a while, how would their technique and results compare to an overseas surgeon? (Not as good I imagine).

Tbh I would prefer to have it done locally despite it potentially costing up to two thirds overseas (but would be a lot more of a headache with travel visas, new passport, lots of paperwork, planning etc.), but only if the outcome will be as good.

Has anyone had theirs done here? Alternatively, Thailand would be my first choice O/S, anyone had theirs done in Thailand?

i too would love to know the answer to this. :)

while being only a simple country NSW bumpkin ;-) i could hazzard a guess and say the gender centre (http://www.gendercentre.org.au/) would know something to answer this.

i guess being a tad more pricier in aus, the surgeons figured those that need it done in australia would just end up going overseas where its cheaper, thus dont advertise it as much here. that being said im sure there are a few who do it locally, not every girl in aus can get overseas ...
Even a small fish in a big pond needs to keep an eye out for the fisherman

Sorry, that's something I know nothing of (blessed with a tiny bump of an Adam's apple so haven't really looked into it), hopefully someone knows!  :)

By an overseas surgeon you mean US or Asia?

I've had my addam's apple shaved three weeks ago in Thailand by dr Chettawut and I'm devastated... It's not as simple and lovely as you'd think. Surgery itself is easy breezy, doesn't hurt etc. but I had hoped that you know, I'm gonna pay, an experienced with TS women doctor will shave it all down and boom, I'll be passable (I mostly got clocked for my addam's apple), and here I am.

My addam's apple is as visible as it used to, ESPECIALLY when I raise my chin up, it's just a nightmare. I hate getting clocked, it's a pain I can't control, it literally makes me nauseous and feel sick in my stomach. I am thinking of getting it re-done by (I suppose) the absolute expert i.e. dr Suporn. However, I'll let him leave a massive scar on my neck, to make it easier for him to shave as much as possible, as they usually leave a tiny scar.

Goodluck!

Crowcrow Yea, I'm thinking more Thailand, US would be too expensive to go for such a "simple surgery" only for me, something bigger and further south I wouldn't care. Being judged sucks, I think we can all relate. Maybe some nice scarves may help cover up if you're very self conscious of it (and the climate permits)?

Lauranza I think you may be right. We are generally not flush with cash and it kinda is a niche surgery for pretty much the trans* community so yep, the lack of choice seems, well, lacking. Even more so being rural the services just don't exist for anyone outside a major city here. I haven't asked anyone at the GC yet but I will at some stage (I haven't yet, I'm lazy :p).

Luckily mine is mostly covered by this layer of flab at the moment so it's kinda not so noticeable :). Until I lose weight I don't think it will be too critical for me but just investigating for now, thanks girls.
