Yet another question about HRT & MPB

Just Ole Me

I've been on HRT for 1 year. I have classic MPB for a 44 year old cis male. When I first started T blckrrs a year ago a few months later I started to grow little very short white peach fuzz hair where my hairline used to be oh so long ago.  Fast forward 9 months later and I have noticed that those little white peach fuzz hairs are now brown ( my natural color), thicker and about 1/4" to 1/2" long.

Should I get excited or should I not hope for regrowth???  Might they get longer and thicker with each cycle or am I just wishing?  Anyone had a major follicle comeback later in life?

Hugs

Kay
Just trying to find comfort in this "shell" that doesn't fit.  But I am "remodeling" the shell finally!

My hair began receding at age 14, and that was... a very long time ago. About 7 years ago, I had to take a powerful immuno-modulator for six months. Nine months after I stopped, me, and everyone else, noticed I had hair that any woman would die for! Seriously! I mean, it was beautiful, and thick, thick, and thick! Over time, it began reversing and I ended up with less than I had started with. Now, we'll just have see what a regimen of HRT brings about. When it comes to hair and hair follicles, I've decided that the experts may know a lot, but they don't really know as much as they think they know. Good luck!

Male Pattern Baldness is caused by dihydrotestosterone. Yep, read that again. DHT is a by product from testosterone and is what causes MPB. You don't actually go bald, at least not right away. What happens is that hairs have several life cycle phases and one of those phases is the dormant phase. DHT forces hairs to spend more and more and more time dormant which leaves less time for the other phases (including growth).

Those little white hairs you see are a direct result of your testosterone levels being low enough that DHT byproducts are not being produced in enough quantity to stop hair growth.

Now the big question is how much hair regrowth will you see? I would strongly recommend that you do the following things:

1. Take at least 5000 mcg of biotin per day. Often people take a 5000 mcg tab at lunch and another at dinner. Biotin is a water soluble vitamin so excess is just passed out through the kidneys.

2. Begin using 5% minixidil on your scalp twice per day. I use the liquid form because it's lots cheaper. Yes, it's a bit messier than the foam but one month of foam is about $44 and 6 months of liquid from Amazon (Kirkland's is the brand I order) is about $29.

3. Consult with a hair restoration specialist in your area that does Matristem ACell + PRP treatments. I am planning to do this soon as I am seeing similar regrowth. ACell stimulates the scalp stem cells and can cause hair regrowth. The treatment is usually about $3500 from a hair restoration doctor, takes a single day, is non-surgical, and you heal up quickly from it. (It's basically numerous injections into the scalp.)

That's what I'd recommend as a minimum if you want to maximize your chances of hair regrowth.

And yes, you are having some now. Why not give it the best start you possibly can?

I have been on HRT for a year and finasteride for 15 months. My T is 24 dl/ng or lower.

I use a derma roller for 3 months weekly or so (1 mm) and have used minoxadil alternately.

I had 1 PRP treatment done about 1 month ago. Prior to the treatment I had a lot of regrowth about 50%. I now notice the small hairs that were not growing are now growing, I would say 75% of the remaining area. The treatment cost $895 and $100.00 for shampoo,  conditioner and a spray to use daily. I am happy with the treatment and I will wait another month to evaluate another treatment there or another place close to me (45 minutes). They remove blood then separate it and add thrombin and potassium chloride, mix and inject 100 injections. Next there is a 13 or so 1.5 mm tines that are thrust into your scalp by a tattoo type machine at a much slower rate. The discomfort is manageable and there use a numbing cream. Afterwards they clean up the blood and you never would know it was done.

I had some pretty bad MPB and I am recovering. I hope I can manage a full head of hair.
