I'll be going to a new highschool this year. Basically my question is should I do ROTC or Boy's PE? My name will be legally changed to my male name by then, so the only thing I will be concerned with is the school labeling me "female". To graduate you have to have a P.E. credit which can be P.E or JROTC. I wouldn't have a problem doing PE if I could do BOYS P.E.  But I feel like even if I select "boys pe" they'll still put me in girls because I'm labeled female. JROTC would be fun too, but I'm concerned that they might see female and think oh its a cross dresser and not want me ( I think this because JROTC OR ROTC is connected with the military and u know how they are). Or do Roll Charts and stuff like that have the gender on it? Thanks

Is there  a way to talk to your school and ask them not to put you with the female pe? If you get into JROTC it's a different entity tied to the school so it may be easier to have basically say you want to take P.E as a male.

My mom and I are thinking of speaking to someone at the school. But we would like to have as few faculty know as possible for confidentiality reasons. I DEFINENTLY would not want the boy's coach to know.

I think just talking to the principal will be enough for you honestly. Having a meeting with him, explaining that you want to take P.E. with the guys and telling them that the school is not to disclose to faculty should be enough. Be very firm about nondisclosure and I think you can get it. Good luck

The good thing about JROTC is if you decide to go into the military you will come out of Basic Training at a higher level (and a bit more pay), than the other guys. I think that there are currently changes happening in the military for trans people, but that won't be cleaned up in the immediate future (but, I bet by tbe time you graduate in a couple of years).

Also, I read about ftms in JROTC that were forced to wear the female uniforms and I would definently not do that.

Doesn't really apply to JROTC, but the don't ask don't tell reversal, doesn't really apply to trans. They are looking into it, but they can still kick you out of the military just for being trans. It might be wrong but it's not illegal.
