I've done some poking around online, and couldn't find a definite answer, so I'm wondering if you all might.
I'm hoping to get my name changed within the next few months here, and I want to do my gender maker and all my documents (license, social security card, birth certificate) at the same time. It's 210 bucks for the forms and court date, and around 60 for a new license (I think). Does anyone know the approximate cost for name change on all documents in New York state?
The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

You are in the ballpark.  Add the cost to change your passport, changing car titles and registration, and if you have a mortgage the cost of recording the new title and deed of trust with the city and county.  There may also be account change charges from financial institutions, although I got around that by moving everything to a credit union.  The total bill can run from a few hundred to a couple of thousand depending on what you need to correct.

Expect the process to take months.  I changed my name legally in November, and am still trying to work things out with my health insurance. (They get the name, but have a tougher time with changing gender)

Good Luck,

Thanks, Julie. Fortunately, the only things I have to change are the documents, health insurance (which I'm not changing the gender on yet), my credit union, work, school, and two loans. It seems like so many, but compared to having to do it for cars and passports (which I don't have) and houses Jimiand multiple banks and such, it's not too bad.
Yeah, my medical insurance is the only thing I'm not changing my gender marker on until all my removing-female-bits surgeries are over. I need to get it changed ASAP as proof of RLE for insurance to cover said surgeries, and I'm unwilling to fight with them if I don't have to.
ETA: I was planning around $500 for everything. Should I bump that up, or does it seem reasonable?
The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

I doubt it will even be that much.  :)

One thing that is free is changing your Social Security card - the SSA states that their services are always free, and if you do see charges that means you're dealing with someone trying to commit fraud (in other words walk away!).

Sweet.
Good to know, TG. I was gonna pop over top the SSA office in town when I got everything sorted and do it through there.

To anyone reading this, I had my minor name change done for $1500 with a good lawyer. In most states name changes for minors are more complicated, and usually you need an attorney. You can probably get a cheaper lawyer, but my Mom's screwed up her divorce. I know the asker isn't a minor but this is for everyone else. It is much easier to have your name changed as a minor BC you don't have to worry about changing Bank accounts, liscences and those types of documents.

In the case that would probably be most relevant on here - a minor TG child's parents changing his/her given names to reflect the child's gender identity (not a surname as is usually the case with divorces, etc.) - if both parents consent then it probably wouldn't be much more complicated than an adult name change. (It's when one of the parents or the child don't agree that it can get nasty and expensive - just like how an uncontested divorce is much cheaper and quicker than one where the spouses have strong disagreements on who gets what, etc.)
