Cindy

Well for those who want to see my television debut

Very good Cindy.

I like that they showed a close up of your special bracelet even though I'm sure they had no idea of its meaning.

One thing you said struck close to home. That was that I have always known who I was, it is other people who were confused on that and the problems I have had were more due to that than any confusion on my part.

That was a great report Cindy. Congrats! And thank you for being a person wiling to front the media and say what needs to be said, I know it isn't an easy thing to do. Awesome that Susan's gets a look in too!

Also, very nice manicure!! ;D

Great stuff! And on proper ABC too!
They should show it beyond SA!

I didn't know you were another of those crazy English folk (funny how they mentioned that) - we get around a bit.

Congratulations!

Cindy, I'd like to add my thanks for standing up in public like that, especially when I'm too afraid to contemplate any such thing.

I've a few of questions though.

You mentioned having GCS in Australia (6:06), and the reporter (7:07) said "some transgender women travel overseas, primarily to Thailand in the mistaken belief that surgery there is cheaper." I don't care about the price, but my belief is that it is vastly better in Thailand, not to mention the options available in the USA. I can't reconcile these viewpoints. If it had been anyone else saying that I would have ignored it, but I'd really like to know your opinions on this.

At 7:16 it quotes Rob Lyons as saying people people use private health cover. I've probably been missing something there. Is there any public information available about this, or do you just have to call them up?

The reporter said 1.2% identify as transgender (2:26). I thought the numbers were far less than that?

Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

That was a great report. I am surprised so many things are happening recently in Adelaide, including the conference. It seems I am quite outdated.

Hi Hon,

Surgery is always and sadly difficult to discuss, libel laws are very close to the surface.

There are Australian, Thai and American surgeons that I would not take my cat to for neutering never mind 'un-neutering' (a new word?).

As far as skill be very careful; if you turn on the TV you will find adverts for steak knives that are the very best ever, even better than yesterdays. Remember adverts are adverts.

Do your research, be patient, think, study and talk to 'victims' - meant as a joke but relevant, lots of girls (and boys BTW) will NEVER be public on their outcomes. There is - IMO- no skill in Thailand that does not exist elsewhere, indeed I had a comment, "  The surgery is essentially basic, anyone who says different is 'advertising' the skill in the procedure is risk management ".

Cindy, you are great, thank you! I really think reports like yours can make a difference.

I was also wondering about how the percentage of transgender people was calculated. It seems quite hard to get accurate information on that subject.

That was a great piece Cindy.  Well done and thanks.  I imagine this will ramp up in the run up to the conference and you being the conference secretary and all.  Hopefully the media will really get involved as there will be so many stories and messages coming from the conference.

Congratulations and thank you for standing up in front of the cameras.  It is a pleasure to actually see you and hear your voice after the virtual nature of being online.  So did they edit out anything you would have liked to keep?

Let us know when the airfare over the pond gets cheap.  It would be outstanding to be at the conference with you.
