I've been playing the new DnD 5th ed. with a group through Roll20. It's pretty good. Not quite like being there, but very, very close. It's great for table top gaming over long distances. It would be a thing that could be done if someone *polite cough* wanted to GM something.

I've broken my 40K habit, I think GW is just pushing the greed envelope a little a lot too far. Yesterday I just put paint to my first mini for Bolt Action and I've been painting Warmachine for about a year now. (Interspersed with smaller projects here and there.) I just need to actually play some games and not just apply pretty colors and make pew-pew sounds.  :P

And getting a GM is always the toughest part. I'm terrible at it, so I always have to bug others to do it.  :'(

GW being greedy? I don't know what planet you're on! Their prices are so good! And they never increase them! Just kidding I totally know what planet you're on. It's Earth. Isn't it? I know I'm right.

I have a very small Circle army for hordes and it's a fun game and fortunately less expensive than 40k, but I just can't bring myself to enjoy the actual gameplay nearly as much as 40K. I wish Dust Warfare/Tactics was more popular around here because that game is super fun, seems like an in between choice from WarmaHordes and 40k as far as models and price.

Pretty colors and pew-pew sounds are the best part of mini-wargaming duh! (my Dark Eldar are rainbow themed 8) )

There is a 5th edition for DnD I mean what was wrong with 2nd edition or 3.5 for that matter? I occasionally DM games in 3.5, I would do 2nd but not enough interest was shown last time.
15 years on Susans, where has all the time gone?

2nd is great. I used to play it, and I could easily go back. It just might take me a bit to remember how everything was done, since everything got flipped around since then. Just because something is newer, doesn't mean it's ultimately better.

I'm a true gamer (not a real one), I don't go in for being a fan of one system over another, if a system is affordable & has great games then i'm there.

I've never gotten into PC's as they're a waste of money, every year you need to upgrade something to keep the latest games running smoothly, i'd rather stick to consoles & have at least 5 yrs before needing to fork out cash on upgrading. The cash I save means that until I was made redundant I was able to afford at least one new release every week.

I find the term "real" gamer snobbish & insulting, my first computer (in the land before consoles existed) was an Acorn Electron, this doesn't give me the right to invalidate other gamers claim to being gamers if they've never owned or played one of these archaic machines over 30yrs ago.

I think the OP was trying to differentiate between people that own a 360 and occasionally play the latest Call of Duty on single player, and people that actively play multiple games with other people as part of a community or multiple communities. That's my read on the 'difference' anyways. But I agree with you too, which i why i said i'm a 'real' gamer. =P

Also, I only do PC now, since I built my own for about 1100-1200 USD, 4 years ago, and can still run a majority of games on maximum settings. When Titanfall came out and I bought it I ran it at maximum settings smoothly with no lag. It's all about how you make your initial build, and don't create any bottlenecks!

Additionally, I'm a film student, so having a solid PC that can run Adobe Creative Suite products is a must, so I get to kill two birds with one stone!

The OP did state that she doesn't consider console players as "real" gamers in her first post.
I used to play C&C on PC until Red Alert 2 came out, it was too much for PC & I always had a 5 minute warning of an enemy attack due to the PC freezing as the enemy army began moving, I would then suffer slowdown until the battle ended. I checked out the upgrades needed & it would have been cheaper to buy a whole new PC so decided to stick to consoles to save money, i've been on Xbox 360 for almost 8yrs & the only upgrades i've bought are a bigger hard drive.

Yeah the level of offensiveness wasn't filtered by the OP for sure, definitely not arguing that one =P

Once when I was out biking a car passed me and yelled "real bikers mountain bike!" I yelled back "real bikers do both!" To me real gamers don't limit how they game.

I agree 100%, the only limit placed on my gaming is financial. Before I was made redundant I had a PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, Gamecube & Xbox360 they all sat side by side & I never caught them fighting amongst themselves (unless they saved that for when I went to bed).
I've had to scale things back whilst times are tough & only have a 360 now but gaming is my primary pastime & a lifelong passion.

Rainbow themed Dark Eldar? Heresy! The Grimdark must remain Grim and Dark! ;) Any pics?

I like the models for Dust, just not sure how I feel about the play board. Large squares keep it simple, but seem a bit limiting to me. I've never played a game of it though.

They decided to make the game more like certain popular MMOs in style and function and invented 4th edition. It went from role-playing to tactical simulation with abilities and cool-downs that did what they wanted. It was not so much fun, nor was it popular. They went back to something more like 3.5 this time. It's a bit simpler than 3.5, but geared more towards role-playing and going off the rails into your own adventures instead of the hard tactical sim of 4. I like it.

I assumed the OP was just being sarcastic about the "real gamer" stuff and was simply looking to start a thread specifically about PC gaming. Which I've helped derail. So. Yeah.

To be fair you really don't need to upgrade PCs every year. Unless the computer started off basically obsolete.

My PC has a FX-6200 which is several years old and was never the high end since it is only a six core. It also has a R9 280x which is basically a Radeon 7970 which wasn't much more powerful than a 6970. I could have built a more powerful computer several years ago. I imagine that at 1080p my PC will continue to be able to run new games for some time. Eventually the settings might need to be turned down, but consoles do that anyway.

I would imagine that with the low prices I have paid for most of my games and considering the backwards compatibility that an economic argument probably could be made for the PC. Especially when viewed against those who own several consoles.

@ Hikari, those are very good points, I normaly buy my consoles second hand to save money but once i'm back into work I do plan on getting a brand new PC. The main deterent over the years is the cost of the initial outlay for a top end PC.
One of the big downsides to console gaming is the lack of variety, i'm a huge sci-fi fan but the only sci-fi games on consoles are shooters & I long for the day when I get a PC to play all of the space flight games i've missed over the years. I also love RTS games but it's rare to find an RTS that works well with a joypad.
Many years ago I used to challenge myself by playing 2 C&C's at the same time with one running on my PC & one on the PS1, it's a real challenge but great fun to stretch your skills.

I started running D&D 5th Ed from the Starter Set that came out, which is fantastic by the way, and have started doing a mish mash of two other modules now that they've finished it and the Monster Manual isn't out for another few weeks and no DMG until November. :(  I really do love what they've done with it.  Only really house ruled one big thing and that was the advantage/disadvantage system.

I grew up with both consoles and PC. I was quite the console fanatic in my teens, buying a PS2, NGC, GBAsp, NDS, PSP, and PS3.. :o :o

But I prefer the PC.. :P I can quickly change between games, have very short loading screens, can play MMOs without trouble,
can play almost anything I like (the days of top exclusives seem to be getting further away), and I like the keyboard turn.

I consider console gamers, gamers.  It's like a Red Delicious vs Pink Lady apples.  Both are apples... ones just better than the other :D :D :D :D

Seriously though I don't hold animus towards my console loving kinsmen. You enjoy gaming, I enjoy gaming, that's one of many things we'll have in common and something I love about you. Computer controls are just more of a natural fit for me than a controller.
