I visited Michigan and I met some of the most open-minded people and also the most close-minded. My ex-partner was in fact very sexist, trans-phobic and a generally horrible person to be around. She believed her rights as a woman meant she could be abusive to anybody and know she won't get punched for it because nobody will dare to lay a hand on a woman. She had a small social life and spent most of her online time belittling and bullying others for her own amusement. I struggle to understand people who live in such hatred and negativity all the time - perhaps it makes them feel better about their terrible life and their poor views of themselves?
I generally tend to stay far, far away from anything that says "Womyn" due to personal experiences and the general attitude online. I feel sorry for what the transgirl went through. Those people should be ashamed of themselves for reacting the way they did. The death threats and victim-blaming... I have no words. I have been victim-blamed by my own family and even though it happened years ago, I am still deeply scarred from it. I wish the transgirl all the support and unconditional love in the world to help her move past this ordeal, nobody should have to suffer through a nightmare like that.
