Almost all Japanese spoke to me in Japanese, except those who attended the symposium, knowing my background clearly.
Even in the street, aged Japanese approached and greeted me in Japanese, although I do not understand Japanese.
Oh. I should mention that even young westerners in the street studied me, as I was probably the tallest person there with 4 inch heels.
When returning home, the Korean flight attendants spoke to me in Japanese, too. I guess the main reason was that my fashion looked closer to Japanese rather than Korean to their eyes (Japanese women tend to wear bold, punk-style fashion items, while Korean young women wear conservatively).
