How do you cope with medical issues month or months after SRS?
What type of medical issues are you experiencing?

****After SRS the first week, I know complications can occur but I'm talking about 2 months and years after surgery.*****

I mainly had fatigue and weakened immune system (I caught every bug to come down the pike for a year or so, and I'm still not as sturdy as I was pre-op).

I definitely had some significant anxiety issues, though I did before GRS too. I'm now on an antidepressant that also treats anxiety, and it's been a tremendous improvement.

So far I've gone to the hospital a few times. Twice for uti (urinary tract infection), bronchitis, menopausal symptoms but that's good now. I haven't ever gone to the hospitals pre-op. I'm not regretting maybe a little but trying to get it undone is impossible and will not attempt it now and nothing will change mind.

As far as anxiety, mine isn't that bad but I don't like feeling like I'm gonna die so I always try to relax and my doctor told me to start biofeedback like yoga.

I get cases of feeling fatigue. I guess this is the medical conditions we'll have to deal with forever. We can never be our normal selves before surgery ever again.

I wouldn't say never again... it can take a while, like years, but I'd say I'm back to my normal self in most respects. (To be honest, I'll never be able to know whether the immune system thing is due to GRS or age or simply the fact that I work in a college and nastier bugs have been going around.)

True, I suppose "never" was the right term but it is longterm medical problems we have to endure. I do believe my immune system have weakened also. 1 month and a half now since I been home and still don't wear underwear just to make my healing better but maybe that could be the cause and I do keep up with hygiene and wiping from front of vagina to back. My immune system got weaker that's for sure.

When you're immediately recovering from surgery, it's more that your body is focusing all its healing capabilities on that - prioritizing recovery over everything else. I appreciated that, really, since I'd rather get a cold than an infection in the new vagina. :) Once you're past the initial recovery phase, there's still a lot of work to be done in rebuilding the lost resources, so you'll probably still be easily tired and a little fragile for months. Women also do seem to be more susceptible to minor illnesses, and the combination of castration + estrogen may well make us closer to cis women that way.

(My close friend who had a hysterectomy said the same thing, that it was over a year before she was back to 100%.)

Well I'm patient and I take care of myself even if it'll be a year till I get to my normal self again. The thing that always raises my confidence is when I tell the nurses I had srs and they still ask if I'm pregnant lmao!!!!

I told them I'm a mtf just to have them better understand where my other health issues and symptoms may be coming and they still ask if I'm pregnant or recently had hysterectomy and if they took out my ovaries haha.

Oh and they ask when I recently had my period. They probably asked me that 5 times on every hospital visit I went to and I finally explain and they're like, "ooohhhhhhh, wow I did not have a clue! You look really great!" Lmao
