Okay so I'm getting my hormone prescriptions in exactly one week and am a little bit excited as well as nervous. I'm 19 years old and wondering what kind of body changes should I experience. I'm 5'6 and weigh around 105 lbs. My measurements are 30-23-32 (chest-waist-hips). I've always had a pretty feminine figure and small bones. From the front I like how I look but from the back somehow my shoulders seem wider than my hips which I hate. I'm hoping that this will change from either fat or hip growth. I heard that hip bones fuse from 18-25 so I'm hoping my actual bone will grow since I'm very skinny. I also have barely any facial hair so I'm not worried about that. One last thing....I don't want my family to know that I'm taking hormones and wondering if hiding my boobs will be easy. I mean I don't think I'll go higher than a B cup if that since I'm very skinny and my family don't have very big boobs. I'm just super excited and scared at the same time because I'm not going to tell my family that I'm transitioning and don't plan on it very soon. I'm not going to grow my hair out super long (its Anne Hathaway length right now and will be forever since I like it that way) or wear very girly clothes (I do wear women's XS shirts though but that's just a t-shirt so no-one really cares). I'm probably going to start wearing sweaters out in public so no-one knows my boob growth and will only probably flaunt them to my boyfriend. Anyways, I hope you guys give me some helpful insight on what I should expect although everyone is different. I'm lucky to been blessed with already very feminine features so the little changes my family will see won't be too drastic to my family since I'm already very feminine as it is.

You probably won't get any hip bone growth but you never know. I started age 23 and I swear my hips are a bit wider as a result, could just be my imagination.

As for hiding your breasts... your nipples will start to bud fairly quickly (usually in the first month or so) and will look like small bumps/buds. They will be extremely sensitive so look out for doors, hugs and random kittens. No more tight t-shirts from that point. As they grow larger you will just need to increase the bagginess of your shirts. Wearing a tight fitting tee under a baggy shirt will also help, as will wearing jackets. No tight jumpers!

Hi ilaam,

Good luck on your journey. I only wish i started early like you but even though i started at 33. I have no regrets.

From what i can tell you from my experience within 4 months my breasts began to bud and my butt got a little bigger by 6 months. According to the research I've done everyone's body will react differently from the hormones. It also depends your genetics. For instance, before i took the hormones my body already had very feminine features so the hormones only enhanced them. I'm the i'm tall and i'm a big girl like Queen Latifa. Anyway, good luck trying to hide everything after one year of hormones on average a lot of MtF's who are transitioning will appear more female and the younger you are in age the more effective it is going to be. So there will be a point that your face will change because your eyes will look more feminine and your skin complexion will change as well. Also, the biggest thing i noticed about hormones is that you will lose control of your emotions. For instance, i find myself arguing more than ever...I am very emotional but that's due to the hormones. But everyone is different.
I am 34 year-old single Latina plus size MtF trans female. If i lose 30 pounds i can be as fit as Queen Latifa right now. I am currently 6 months on HRT. I am open about being trans. I am 100% out at my branch at work and I am 98% out with my external family. I am a hardcore gamer and a writer. I love Karoake and studying psychology.

Hang onto something heavy, ilaam - this is going to be a mind-blowing year.

*Everything* is going to change. Some weeks it will seem like nothing is happening, then you wake up every so often and just go 'WOW'.

Congrats on getting things started early too, it will really help. I started late (age 35) ... but I'm tough as nails so doing alright.

Take care, be good to yourself x

Hey guys thanks for the responses. But I'm still wondering if my hip bones will grow?  I'm hoping they will since I'm only 19 and maybe even get a kind of pear body shape?

I think starting at 19 you'll be just fine. Lucky you!

You will change quickly though. Even me starting at 36, it has become extremely difficult to hide.

Wow..19 years old! You're so young!

Congratulations on your HRT! Everything wil be fine...

I started very late at 38, but I have noticed a lot of changes a lot in only one year.

If you want to know in what direction will your changes go, you better look to the body shape of the women in your family. After all, you've got the same genetic material.

Take a look at the pictures of your mother, sister, aunt...when they were your age, so you will have an idea.

How exciting! The anticipation leading up to the date and then the process after the start!  I hope to be joining you as I have my first appointment with my endo in two weeks.
