I wasgetting ready to do my shotand I pinched the side of my thigh to do it because I do subcutaneous injections. I felt like I had a good amount of fat so I tried to insert the needle. But before I could get it all the way inthe pinch hurts so bad and I had to take the needle out immediately. I didn't even get to put the whole needle in. I was in a lot of pain so I just waited and put a bandaid over the spot. I'm okay I just have a lot of pain in the side of my upper thigh. I want to know what did I hit? It never heard that bad whenever I was inserting the needle into my skin. I am really skinny I don't have that much fat only on my stomach and I always do the shots on my stomach because it's so much easier than in my thighs.

That's good you're okay but why were you doing IM if you're used to Sub Q? Are you thinking about switching over or what?

Not really an educated guess but it's possible you hit a nerve which apparently hurts like no tomorrow. That's the one thing I always kinda fear when my fiancée's doing my shot, luckily she hasn't hit one so far.

thats happened to me before, probly did hit a nerve, i end up doing it in my other thigh when that happens.

I wasn't doing intramuscular I was doing sub q. I squeezed the side of my upper thigh for fat and tried to put the needle there. I've done it there plenty of times and did research on where to do sub q injections when I started a year ago

Ah I see, I think the last sentence with you talking about doing the shots in your stomach is what confused me. But least you're alright, that's the important thing.

For some reason I'm only able to give my self a 'right' shot in my left leg. Every time iv'e tried in my right leg I end up hitting a nerve or something else and cant put the needle in all the way >_> So I just usually stick the needle in around previous injection sights.

This happens sometimes when I try to do my shots on the left. I always go slowly and if the pain gets to a certain point I don't bother trying in that spot and just move to the other side or in a nearby location. Because of this, most of my shots have been on the right instead of the left. I think it has something to do with the angle, maybe I can get it right on one side easier than the other, but I'm not sure. Whenever I have questions about subq stuff I always ask my diabetic friend, who usually assures me that if things like this or more blood than normal happen infrequently, then it's just a normal thing that happens sometimes.

That's normal, it happens to me quite often whenever I do my shots on my left hip/upper thigh. It's probably just hitting a nerve or accidentally pricking a capillary. Although lately it's taken me more tries than usual to hit a spot that doesn't hurt, and that seems to be closer to my butt.

I use a medication that uses a self-administered automatic pen injector, and I find it's a lot more painful on my right side than my left, and it varies enormously from one time to the next. It also varies enormously on whether it bleeds---usually just a little speck, but a few weeks ago (on the right side) it bled like crazy. Not really much volume, but like a cut. It was the first time that happened after about 120 injections. (Plus, I have recently found I get faint at the sight of blood coming out, so I nearly fainted as a result... blah.)

So, not on T yet, but I was talking to a friend and he was giving me tips on how to make it hurt less when I start. He said if you chill your needles by keeping them in the freezer that it doesn't hurt as much and frequently you don't even feel it. I hadn't heard that before from anyone but I'm wondering if it might help.
