My experience with our TSA as a male ID'ed cross-dressed transgender has been very benign. But I've only flown twice, LAX to MCO (Orlando) and back. I was also pre-checked, so only had a metal detector, but had to take my heels off due to the steel content in them.
I've had far more invasive checks as a male, but then my day job involves certain chemicals they're on the look out for. I've been selected for secondary search and have been swabbed as well. This last trip wasn't a big deal, but I had contemplated flying cross-dressed before, but ran into a college from Germany at the airport. Boy was I glad I decided to pack the dress and not wear it that day. I'd rather tell him, than have a surprise outing at the terminal.
Way to have a humorous outlook on this encounter. Soon enough it'll never happen again.
