Every once in a while I miss one of my 2 daily spiro dosages.  (Usually the morning one cuz I don't eat breakfast much and these pills are supposed to be taken with food).

Am I ok to take both doses at once to keep up with the daily dosage intake?

I was told to take both at once in the morning with food.

Ask your prescribing doctor.

They prescribe medicating to be taken at certain times for a reason.

Never double up unless told to by a doctor.

Unfortunately, its the middle of the weekend and they don't work weekends.

The information given to me was by my endo. I am not yet taking anything else so this may make a difference. I agree that you need to follow what your doctor prescribes. I think that you should get back to the prescribed regiment until you can speak to your doctor.

Then if you miss a dose take the next on scheduled time.

Never double up. Your dose might be a danger level and reason its split.

Quite honestly, once spiro brings your T level down to nothing, and you have been on E for quite awhile, it would be a long time for your T-level to raise up.  I have one friend who's been on E and S for 6months but stopped taking the spiro as her doctor suggested.  Her T level have not risen one bit.  I'm staying on it personally, but I at least think that a skipped dose won't really matter too much.  You should discuss it with your doctor, but I would not sweat it too bad.

I had a conversation about this with my pharmacist, who thought it was strange that I was prescribed Spiro morning and night.   He showed me where on the box insert it says to take it in the morning, and explained that taking it at night leads to more nighttime bathroom breaks (which I hadn't really encountered).

I'm now taking the full dose in the morning, but I'm a bit worried after seeing the half-life is around 11 hours at most.

On a side note, I accidentally doubled my dose for 4 days when this changed, since I was given a single higher-dose tablet to take in the morning but out of routine kept taking it morning/night at first.  I immediately noticed this increased my nighttime bathroom visits, but no other side effects. :P

For six years, I had been told by my endo to take one in the morning and one at dinner time

My endo specifically told me that I could take one dose in the am and one in the pm, both in the am, or both in the pm, it really made no difference. She emphasized this in contrast to the estradiol, which she definitely wanted split between am and pm.

However, you ought to check with your own doctor asap just to be sure. He/she may know something about your situation that we don't. However, I will note that on my spiro datasheet, it says to take a missed dose as soon as possible, unless it is nearly time for the next, in which case to skip it.

Ok, so I'm not a doctor, but I don't think its one of those medicines where it matters if you miss it. Taking too much though is dangerous.

I always take it as soon as I get up, and never in the evening. I got enough problems with that already.

I take breaks from it sometimes, like when I travel or get odd body pains. Travel because its inconvenient peeing all the time, and odd pains because better safe than sorry. I've not noticed any negative effects, and I'm still h

Yep, never double your dose because you missed the previous one. Speak to your endo about it the next time you see them. I take my one dose in the morning only, if I missed one I'd never take two the following morning, it could lead to all sorts of trouble.

Agreed on the cautions against doubling up.  Spiro is not a medication that's vital to your immediate survival - we're not talking about a medication like insulin that can cause problems very quickly for some people if they don't stick to a very rigid daily schedule - so just get back on your regular spiro schedule as soon as you're able.  I've missed taking my spiro a few times in the past.  No big deal; it happens.  It's not as if you're setting your transition back much by the occasional skipped pill, although it might be time to adjust your lifestyle to ensure that you're always taking your meds as instructed.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm still excited to stuff all those pills in my mouth twice a day - it's the first thing on my mind when I wake up, and I'd have to be handcuffed to the bed to not leap right up and gobble down my estradiol and its pharmaceutical friends.

Nurse here: don't double the dose. We take a dose much higher then the one used by people on it as an anti-hypertensive already. If you double the dose you risk bottoming out your blood pressure. If you miss a dose you miss it. Get back on schedule the next day.

I'll back what the others have said, don't double on Spiro.

Also just my medical opinion, you are probably better off taking in the morning, particularly if you have low BP as your BP drops at night anyway.

But follow your medics advice at all times.

If you take it twice a day take the first dose in the AM and the second around 3:30-4:00. That's what I do and I never wake up at night to void.

That's interesting, I'm exactly the opposite. I don't like being reminded it's not natural and its one of the things I like about implants.
